Cob led diy -help a noob

Hi guys,
So, i am a Noob to cob led diy, and i am trying to build one.
First i was looking to a 120x120cm grow tent, but then realized that i would need atleast 550w of light to have a good coverage. As the light here is a bit expensive, i Will go with a 90x90cm or a 100x100cm. And thats where the doubts beggin.
I was thinking of 6 bridgelux bxrc-35e10k0-b-73-de vero 29 cri 80 but i dont know what mean well to use? I want to run them between 300 to 400watt, How do i dim them to this?
Trying to get at least 400+ grams. Autos preference with perpetual Harvest, i Will be having another grow tent, trying to Harvest every couple 2 months.
Any tip/advise/change Will be apreciated.

If you're set on those cobs, you could go with a HLG-480H-C-2800 and wire 3 in series and both rows parallel. The A version of these drivers has an integrated potentiometer to set it to anything between 200 and 500W.

Either that or you could get any of the 54V drivers and wire all the cobs parallel. HLG-480H-54 or HLG-320H-54 depending on how much power you want. That's probably the option I'd go for.

I'm not set yet, just thought that for 20 euros a chip, its not a expensive one for what It delivers.
I was thinking of 3 lines of 2 cobs each. Or what do you think its best? Its 6 cob the best way to go on a 100x100 or what do you think? What would you do If It was you build a light for that kind of grow area and trying to get 400+ grams.

It mostly depends on your budget. How do you plan on cooling the cobs?

Personally, I'd go with at least 2 rows of 3 or 3 rows of 3 cobs to get somewhat even coverage.

Either way, 1g/W should be possible in any case.

Dont know yet, what do you think is the most effective way? Passive cooling? Maybe fans? I dont mind the noise cause It Will be in a different house from where i leave.

I dont have a limited budget per say, but off course i want to spend as less as possible. Do you think that the diference between 2 rows 3 cobs vs 3 rows 3 cobs justifys the price of 3 extra cibs plus cooling.

Of my understanding, i might be completetly wrong, i read that the mean well drivers ending with the letter "B" are easier to add a potenciometer? That would be something that i would like.

The A version has the potentiometer integrated in the driver. If you want external control, you need the B version.

Most people use the passive pre-drilled pin heatsinks. You can get them from rapidled for example.

Trust me, you'll always want more and better light so might as well buy right the first time.

If it won't hurt Ya, I'd definitely use 9 cobs. It's a better spread. Use the hlg-480h-c1050a or b, and wire them in series. The cobs can more than handle the 56 Watts a piece at full blast but you would just dim it a bit to 350-400.
Build it as big and spread out as you can so if you wanted to go to A 4X4 tent you could just hang that light at full blast and kick Ass with it just the same.


That's assuming you use the 54V chips. Not 36 or 68.

Yeah external potenciometer os the best option.

About the 4x4, 300w to 400w would not give me the watt per sqmt that is recommended to flower. So to that kind of Power a 90x90 os the ideal, but as o would try to fit 6 plants i Will probably Go with the 100x100cm.
About the Power, the Max i am willing to Go is 450w and thats already pushing because without taxes It would costs me 36 euros. A gram here costs 5 euros.

airwalker whats the estimated cost on building this light set up?
