Cob 3590 Spacing??? Chart with different wattage and Optics

Hello All,

Obviously new here just wanted to say hello and thanks to the DIY guys paving the way with this new technology. (SupraSPL, Greengene, and Growmau5, Robin)
I have been doing an insane amount of research and watching countless hours of DIY talk on Youtube and trying to read every single page of Supras Threads and I have learned a lot but I thought this thread would be very helpful for people like myself just now ordering heatsinks and laying out our footprints for our grow space/ canopy.

5x5 tent with 4x4 actual plants.

I want to use 4 x 3.5" by 42" Heatsink Active cooling maybe cut in half to lessen the length of horizontal fins but would connect them with aluminum angle. I plan on running 4 cob per bar or if I cut them in half it will be 2 cob per bar at 50 Watt each with the KingBrite reflectors that are 80 cents a piece. Everything I have read says keep the cobs 10" center on center for best spread.

I would love it if someone could chime in on distance cob should be from edge of heatsink and if 10" is a good distance between 3590 36v 3500K running 50W each with KB plastic reflector that looks like the LEDIL one that is .80 cents.?

3 inches from the edge of the sink should be plenty.

Spacing depends on # of emitters and grow space. Work out a grid, keeping the outer emitters 8-10 inches from the edge and space them evenly.

Ya, really not much to it at your point. You've already go the sink size, so distributing them the best/most evenly over that distance is your goal. 10" is great. From the edge, isn't a huge deal. 4" is good and will have enough sink around it to do cooling work. And some for KB lens mounting, big lenses.

Thanks Rahz really appreciate it. I want to leave some space in my tent so was gonna set up a 4 x 4 trellis system in my 5 x 5 tent. So you suggest keeping the cob 8" from the edge of my 48" grow space with the 90 degree optics correct?

Also one more question sorry to be a pain. I am worried about the weight of the heatsinks on the tent especially because the Carbon filter and fan are already suspended. If i was to use Arctic 11plus CPU coolers and connected them all will 1" angle aluminum would I save a good amount of weight or would it be very minimal?

Would you recommend 120 degree optics so you could get a little closer to the plants or would you go with the 90 degree ones that I already mentioned from Jerry that twist and lock onto the adaptors?

Also would you go 3.5" x 44" or would you cut them shorter and just connect them with angle to get my 44 inches over 48" canopy?

My bad. I read 80¢ reflector... as 80* KB lens. Dyslexic, stoned or "C"...all of the above.
Yes you are doing it the better way IMO with lightweight reflectors.

It would probably save some weight. The Arctic 11 ad probably has weight listed somewhere and you can figure the weight of the bar sinks from weight/inch listed at HSUSA. That said, the tent should (determine for yourself) be able to handle the weight of your lamps. I remember seeing a tent ad where a guy was hanging from the frame.

A cob with 90 degree optics 1 foot above the canopy provides a good 8-10" radius. If you plant to hang them higher then moving them in a little might be better, but the critical point is during weeks 3-7 so that's what I would plan for.

i did 10 inches apart on a 42'' hs..6 inches off edge of hs to center of cob ..and used 4 cobs on each hs..just finished it so didn't get to put it to use yet...as rahz said it def got some weight to it ..i attached the drivers to the hs which also added some weight ..next time i think i might put the drivers maybe all together on the wall to relieve some weight
