Cloning

WTF!? I've tried, in vain, to clone! I bought a Gro-dan dome, rock-wool cubes and CloneX. First, I sanitized EVERYTHING with 99% isopropyl alcohol. The water was Ph'd with lemon juice (as per instructions on cubes) after adding the cubes. I lightly squeezed the cubes so they didn't drip and put in the dome. I cut the clones and instantly put them in Ph'd water and a drop of bleach, to avoid air going up the hole in the clone's stem. I scraped about an inch of the stalk and cut an X in the bottom of the clone (for more coverage). Then, dipped in CloneX, about 1- 1 1/2 inches up the stem and pushed it into the rock wool (not using the hole provided). I misted them once a day and it seems to not be working! It's been 6 days and NO signs of rooting AT ALL! I've tried powdered hormones (root tone) and didn't have success either. What am I doing wrong!?:wall:

Once I asked a wise man "how do you clone?" and his response was "cut, dip, and stick it in a cube!" You can make it as complicated as you want since some strains are a bitch to clone. I would just cut, then make final 45 degree cut under water. After this, scrape lower 1" of stem and dip it in liquid or gel hormone as powders are shit. Pre soak cubes with ph'd water and squeeze. Pour some hormone in the cube's hole then sink it in that hole as far as it will go. Trim all large fan leaves tips by one third...place in humidity dome with open vent. Finally, mist the dome and cuttings. I mist 3-4 times a day. I would also place the clones in darkness or dim lighting for 24 hours. I'd try it right in soil or jiffy pellets...very easy.

Be patient, I have had clones take up to two weeks to show roots from bottom and side. Are you using a heat mat? When I pretty much do the same technique, but I am not as good about sterilizing and I don't add bleach to my water. I just put them in little hole and press it in a bit. I found when temps were lower it took longer and when I added heat mat and used dome it made them root quicker.

No heat mat but it is in a grow tent with plenty of warmth (80 degrees) and a humidity dome. I pulled one out and it appears that the stem is disintegrating. I know better to be patient but am getting close to the beginning of a new cycle and I need to either have sucess or buy more from the Disp. Maybe it was the bleach; I think it was supposed to be Hydrogen Peroxide. Live and learn and be patient; I guess.

yeah just a little h202 is what i use and mist with. helps keep the green away with the humidity up. i use jiffy pucks or just some happy frog in a solo cup to do my cuttings.

Don't use organics unless they are completely composeted. I cut my cubes 2"'x 2"'x h" from slab. Be sure your Rockwool is upside up and bottom at the bottom. It all makes a difference. I soak my cubes for two or three hours in spent res water from the budders. I cut one lower shoot with leaf before dipping in #2 stimroot, nothing else. The roots actually grow from the bark of the plant. After setting the newly cut clone on a single layer of gravel in the cloning bin I fill the cubes with spent res water using a pump up sprayer. After all the desired clones are in the bin give them a light misting and seal the bin other than a 2" drain/air hole for about 20=30 clones. They should be good for at least a week. I use two cool white, 4' t5's on my cloning bin 24 hour.

You have to be patient.....but honestly, I have had the best luck with a homemade bubble cloner. Never really liked rockwool.

I make my bin out of a clear plastic garbage bag. I suspend the light on the ceiling and put a shelf up I make from plywood, but not to high so I can easily share a hoot with my clones.

You mean a 5 gal bucket w/ air stones or sprayers and a fish tank pump? My local supply shop has a fairly complete kit for $40. That's my next step if these don't take.
