Cloning help!!

I was thinking about cloning a few cuttings outdoors soon... I've seen many people say that its reallllly hard to clone outside. I have peat pellets and a tray thats about 6 inches tall with the lid on. Can I do this outside?? I live in Southern California and the weather is fairly nice. No overcast, nothing. Gets to about 75-80 in the day, and about 60 at night. How much sunlight would they need every day? And should i bring them in at night? Will cloning indoors with CFLs be better than trying to use the sun? Im really torn right now between which one is better!

THANKS!

p.s. I have this posted in another section also, but since im new, i thought id post it here too..

Cloning would be best done in that dome thing in your house in a sunny windowsill or under the cfl.
You don't want full sunshine like they would get outside.. It would be a lot of light that the clones can't handle until they root.

thanks! and i do have a dome type thing, its just a ton cheaper than the bigger domes. it came with the peat pellets. so how many cfls and what wattage? would 3 60w daylight cfls work?

what ive learned with clones is their delicate need optimal air to moisture ratio..hormones arnt necessary but help wen used right...lighting can range from sun to a 1kwat hps which is wat i use during the winter just keep them good amount away from the light...like 2 3 feet....and most of all patience....wen u wanna chek em for roots dont mist em and walk away.....peace an love

Did you figure anything out? I am on my 3rd cloning attempt. My first try I took 8 beautiful tops, dipped them in clonex and put them under 1kw MH at 3-4 foot away. Burnt the shit out of them. The second batch I put half in potting soil and half in rooting sponge cubes. I put them in the window sill the first day. Got home after work and found them laying limp. I bought a T5 and the ones in dirt sprung back up the next day. They still look good after 2.weeks. I tried another batch with peat pellets.and only half of.them look like they are halfway stiff. I could use help too. I have a.3 way PH meter that shows light intensity, but don't know what scale it is in, ie. lumens, ect. Scale is in 0-2000. I know clones can't handle.much light at first but How much light intensity does a clone need optimally? So far I have only had luck cloning so.far directly in straight potting soil. Any suggestions?

I need to get crankin on some quantity right away. Help is greatly appreciated.
