I grow five plants at a time. To be safe, I take seven clones. But as I am now facing, 6-7 make it so I am in that mode of deciding which will die. Point being, not scientific but works very well for me.
I like to take small "tops". I LST the mother to get lots of them. I take prob 3" cuttings. I cut the top tops straight, not at an angle. As soon as I cut one, it goes immediately into water.
once I have them all cut, I clean a razor blade with ISO, get my rooting gel, and my prepared soil.
Cut the stem at a good angle, remove any extra leaves. Dip well in rooting gel and place into small hole in soil. Pack lightly.
Take a baggie and cut a slit in the top. Mist into it and place over the cup. Place cups on heating mat with a little light.
I will mist into those baggies once a day at first, then less, the. make the slits bigger, slowly reducing the humidity until they seem okay without it.
Soil mix - MG seed starter with about 30% plain perlite added in. This is the only thing I use MG for. For whatever reason, the seed starter works great for me. I get it damp with 6.5 water, not wet. I also leave a little room at the top so that the clone can grow a bit before hitting the baggie.
Clones go into solo cups with holes at the bottom. And I put a little straight perlite at the bottom (I find this makes it easier to get the plant out for transplant later).
Sorry I wrote a little disjointed. I know there is stuff that peeps say is wrong, less than ideal, etc and I can not argue with them. But it is simple and works for me. As time goes on I am nearing 100% success. But that is irrelevant and it is no biggie to cut extras for a personal grow.
