Cloning - do you need rockwool?

hi all,

Im just unsure about cloning and what to put it in once i've added it to clonex...i've run out of rockwool cubes (which is what i used to use for clones) and im wondering if you can put them straight into soil??? if so how do you go about it?

im guessing/hoping it's just like rockwool (take a clipping, dip it in clonex then put it in the rockwool) would this be correct?

yeah your spot on, thats how you clone it, be sure to cut at like 45 degrees at the bottom of the clones to get maximum root growth, also keep them in a humid dome (take a clear plastic container that light can penetrate and mist it on the inside with a spray bottle every so often to keep it real wet it there) Do this for a couple days, the clones get moisture through their leaves while the roots establish. And the rockwool will be fine going right into the soil.

cheers assrabbi, yea i've got a dome (bought a proper one from a hydro store), but can you say fill a cup with soil (say backard soil) and put the clipping into that without any rockwool?

yeah as long as you have ROOTER, which you obviously do you can grow it on almost anything, silica stones, clay pellets, dirt, Go buy some quality dirt though, you'll thank yourself. Lately I've been adding alot of perlite to my soil mix, you have to fertilize more but it seems to root faster. PERLITE IS ALSO PH NUETRAL (7.0) a big plus.

Look into "hempy buckets" a 5 dollar bag of perlite is the only grow medium you need. Its a great method for clones, its hydroponics though, don't be afraid, all you might need is a set of hydro nutes 3 parter. If not stick with soil!!! IMO soil is the best (more stable) but if your not a noob like me you can grow FAST as hell with hydroponics.

i've got a dirty big bag of perlite left over from my last grow so i'll defiently use that, would it be wise to use say a 60% perlite/40% soil mix? using just a normal sized plastic cup.

for the little ones I'd say 30perlite 70soil. just so they'll have a good base. Then when you go bigger your 60/40 would be good. You may have to change feeding habits because of the small amount of soil. Just so you know though, I'm telling you what works for me (and I'm sure will work just as perfect for you) I'm a bit of a novice too, but what I've seen and experienced is what I have to offer, and it always seems to help. By the way I'm growing a plant that is 70% indica 30% sativa. different variates grow different. thankyou UK, I don't know who else I would talk bud with at 4am. you are from the UK right?

also If you add several inches of soil at the bottom of your BIG pots before you use the heavy perlite mix it will help out a lot. It works as a resevoir for the roots to grow down to and stabilize on. Until they reach the soil at the bottom you'll have to watch it and make sure the baby is getting sufficent water (dont over water just take into account there is less soil in the big 60/40 mix for the roots to suck water out of until they hit the soil at the bottom.

I try to help all the people I can (hoping Ill get the same kind of help in return when I need it) but no one ever reps me, whatever, haha, I should have seen the down under location. WHY AINT CHA GROWING OUTSIDE, do you live in the west where its too hot? or what cause you damn aussies can grow literal TREES outdoors. good weather, I'm might just buy that guys LIFE who is selling his whol LIFE on ebay, and move into his house in perth,maybe huh. But I guess sometimes you just cant grow outside. well I'm out ga-night mate.

i should grow outdoors but where im from (the far north in the tropics) theres to many stoners up here who'd love to take it as their own:evil: plus the abbo's can smell the stuff from miles away, they'd find it in seconds lol.

Are you guys wetting your perlite b4 mixing it with your soil... or mixing it, then transplanting the clone, then watering it... and if so how much water are you giving it and how often ?

I use about a 70/30 mix of peat moss and perlite. If I have some good compost available I will throw some of that in so I dont have to feed the plants too much. I wet it down really good. Not too wet, but enough so that you can squeeze water out of it without squeezing too hard. Then I let it sit for a while to soak up all the water and then I mix it up again before using it. Watch your ph, cause peat moss can get kind of acidic.

*coco is ph stable/peat moss becomes acidic
*coco is renawble resource/ peat moss comes from bogs that arent renawble
*Coco has a high cation exchange capacity
*coco has a high lignin content/peat has a lower content
*Coco compacts less then peat moss
*Coco last three times as long as peat moss, and is much more easily renawble.

This list goes on and on...

everywhere really!!! but dont have it shipped it would cost alot to have a bit of coco shipped to ya...

Try the local hydro store.... and avoid bricks of the stuff, go for the bags of it, because it is pre-fluffed, and pre washed and ready to go right out of the bag.

Fluffing and Rinsing before using is SUCH a PAIN in the ASS. it worth the few extra bucks for the bags or Canna Coco, or BioBizz coco believe you me...
