Clones for Seeds

I've been reading alot about cloning as i intend to try it soon. From what i've read after your clone takes hold you should flower it to check for plant gender then throw the clones out. I assume this is because there is little or no bud production. but what if i had a male and a female from my clones and wanted some more seeds. Could they possibly produce any decent seeds at that size?

Males dont produce seeds mate, they produce pollen sacks which in turn release pollen and pollinate any female plants in the area. And the females that got pollinated will grow seeds along with the bud (well in the areas that got the pollen anyway) Veg your clones for a couple weeks after they grew their legs then stick em in flower and grow em all the way if you want. In flower a plant will get 2-3 times its size. You can toss them in right after they get legs if ya want but I always veg em for a little bit. I know your wondering if ya struck gold getting a female or 2 but sometimes its worth the wait :mrgreen:

i know the difference in a male and female plant. from what i've read about cloning you want to initially take a clone before knowing the parents gender (which i don't yet) then as soon as the the clone takes root start to flower it to determine gender. It's after this step that i'm unsure of as a lot of places have said to throw out all flowering clones, regardless of gender, since they are only about 6 inches tall and won't produce much.

My questions is instead of throwing them out if i got both a male and a female couldn't I keep these small flowering plants and breed them for seeds? I don't see why not because the alternative is throwing the in the garbage. I guess i was trying to see if anyone has done this or has a reason not to.

Well I dont really see why you couldn't, but after the male has pollinated the female I would yank him out of there and do a detailed cleaning (to get rid of any pollen that might of dusted off into the room) Not doing so could cause problems later (fan shakes some pollen that was stuck on a wall down and blows onto all your females and turns em hermie is never a good thing :cry:

I have a 30 gallon tote that i have all my seedlings in and its where i plan on putting clones. I'll probly flower the clones in there until size becomes an issue. but that should be easy enough to clean. Thanks for that tip though, i wouldn't have thought to clean the pollen out afterwards.

You can just spray the grow area down with water in a spray bottle. Water deactivates the pollen. After that, you should be fine.

Just Ph'd water is good, but try to maintain good humidity nobody likes mold :blsmoke:

and if you use HID lighting when you spray raise the light a bit. The droplets of water can act as a magnifying glass and burn the plant

Just water, I wouldn't worry about it until the plants are out of the room or if your going to put more plants in with the already pollinated clones. Either way. You should be fine.

This is one of the plants from my current grow. It's the biggest out of the 3. Is it ready to be cloned or should i wait another week or so? Also when i do clone does it matter if i top the plant or take it from side growth?

I took some cuttings to use for clones from the plant in the above post. I used green light rooting powder, jiffy peat pucks, and a humidity dome. Hopefully i get a girl

just an update for anyone curious. the first clone i grew for seeds put out over 100 seeds. These are the same seeds i paid nirvana $35 for 10. it even made a pretty decent smoke so i'm pretty pumped about that

i'd hook you up if i knew how man. the ladies that put out the seeds smoked pretty nice considering they were far from sensi.
