The president of the Cleveland Police Union will reportedly ask Governor Kasich (R-OH) to ban all open carry of weapons during the Republican convention.

Donald Trump already banned guns inside of the convention, an act that has prompted cries of outrage and hypocrisy given that the Republican Party’s subservience to the NRA is the reason we currently sell guns legally to suspected terrorists.

PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley asked, “Republicans argue that mass shootings and acts of terror can be prevented if more people have guns, but if this true why has Trump made the Republican convention less safe by banning guns?”

Now police also want to ban open carry. They want to do that for a reason. Guns kill people. After the open carry shoot out in Baton Rouge during which three officers were tragically killed, officers are even more worried. Law enforcement shouldn’t have to fear that citizens will be carrying weapons of war.

Police associations in general oppose civilian (excluding themselves, of course ... police officers are uniformed civilians) gun ownership and carry. I cannot fault them; it is a job safety issue for cops out in the field.

I do not listen to police associations on gun rights. They have a dog in that particular hunt.

Either the guns make you safer, or they don't.

I struggle to see why anyone would be in any danger, with all of those open carry "patriots" around.

You are plainly not engaging in Officer Thinking. [This] is too important to be left to the [RIU amateur] politicians. They have neither the the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought.

The governor cannot legally ban open carry weapons, he would have to declare martial law....

Well I can see why Trump wouldn't want guns inside the convention someone grabbed a cops gun to try killing him.

But outside why not? the Black Panther need to protect themselves against the rednecks.

You might already know, but if you researched history a bit you would see there was an effort to strip blacks from owning guns and that some of the original "gun controllers" were people who didn't want blacks to be armed.

More on topic...Would you propose the governor encourage some people with guns to ensure others cannot have them ? Wouldn't that mean you think some people have more rights than others?
