cheap mh/hps grow light setup. plz help

So im on a pretty short budget but im trying to.get a cheap light setup with mh for veg and then hps for flower. So what i plan on working with is a 2'×4'×5' grow tent, with 4" vents, and a 190cfm inline fan along with a carbon scrubber. I still want something pretty efficient. I was hopin for something air cooled but if thats not an option on such a low budget then i guess i cant do it. I have about $150 for a ballast and bulb and hood but i can wait to buy the hps bulb so just include the mh in the price. And lastly do u thing a single 400w mh and hps setup would be sufficient enough for this size tent and maybe two plants? Thank u for any feedback in advance

400W HPS would be fine for a 2'x4' tent, and fine for veg too if you don't have a separate tent for vegging.

For a 2'x4' flowering tent, you'd only need a short, narrow veg box. I think most people have way too much space and power devoted to veg for the amount of flowering power they're using. My veg area for 3 of those 2x4 tents is 1 short little box.

So if i do veg and flowering in this one tent i can use one 400w hps bulb for the whole grow? Even for veg? If so what bulb do u recommend? Im assuming theres something that kinda meets in the middle of the mh and hps so i can satisfythe plants in both stages

When I grew with HPS, I didn't really care what brand HPS bulbs I was getting. I was just buying the ones at home depot for 20 bucks. Maybe someone else could advise if the more expensive ones (like son-T agro and hortilux) are worth the higher price.

Either way, HPS will definitely be fine for veg if it's your only lamp. No problem other than being a bit overkill if the canopy isn't filled out yet.

So just maybe give it a lil more distance during veg?

I bought a 400W MH/HPS combo unit for $150 on eBay. Included adjustable ballast, hood, socket with cord and 2 bulbs, one MH and one HPS. Go to "Households and Gardening and use "400W" as a search.
