Cfl dog cage grow!

Yo yo yo new to growing, not new to life, so don't be a dick.

My buddy and I took a spare dog cage...

H: 30.50 in
D: 28.25 in
W: 43 in

... and wrapped the entire inside of the frame with Reflectix. (Yeah I know mylar is better but Ive grown with it before and loved it.)
Then we zip-tied the sheets of Reflectix reeeal snug, but not super tight, to the cage. This gave us nice flat reflective walls in a strong metal frame. Then we just foil taped every hole we saw from the zip ties, loose ends, cracks etc.

Let me tell you, it looks pretty. Right now our seeds are germing, and we plan on growing anywhere from 3-6 females. fingers crossed.

As far as growing, we are starting at the rear corners (43 in apart), and growing towards the middle. This will make them share more light as the get larger. As they get larger, we will add a couple CFLs more towards the middle, etc.

AS OF RIGHT NOW STARTING OFF I have this in mind:

On each side- 3 half gallon pots under 4 100w 1,600L 5,000K = 6400L per 3 Seedlings / 12800L Total box

As they get older, I will add a few 6500k here and there, but I'm not trying to EXPLODE my grow box by overdoing it with too much full spectrum. PLUS the fact that 6500k are fucking HOT. I'm well aware that 6500k are ideal, but we are trying to be safe in a small area. I will probably only allow my box to veg at around 15,000 total lumens in the end.

So when they are about 3-4 nodes tall and sexy enough to flower, I will replace the box almost completely with 2700k, remove ALL 5,000k, and leave 2 maybe 3 6,500k. In my flowering stage I wish to kick the total lumens to anywhere close to 40,000, SAFELY.

What do you guys think?

Very great idea with the dog cage good job. I would try to flip that bitch around soooo it's 43"high. Might consider flowering somewhere else I veg IN a small kitchen base cabinet and flower in a closet type space

You ordered pure indica strains correct as you have very very minimal room which means a sativa of any sorts and your screwed. Figue minimal 1 gallon pots veg til maybe 5 inches tall then into flower topping out as about 12 inches of plant 10 inches pot thats 20 inches in height leaving enough room for lights to hang with small gap. What kind of venting did you set up since in that confined place you need good air exchange so fans blowing air out, fans moving air in and fans sucking new air in.

I bet Chemdog, X-Dog, Dog Kush, Bulldog Haze, Kali Dog, and similar canine strains would do real well in that set up.

Sorry, sometimes I crack myself up.

Its my buddies seeds. We have no clue lol. So do you think I should grow them in 6" pots instead of half gallon pots?? and we are going to rig an exhaust with some tubing and a very powerful fan, couple oscilators on the inside

If my eight is 28 inches, that should be tall enough to switch to flower at about 5-8 inches/4 nodes, right? We plan on making a SOG canopy

I personally would top at the second node wait for growth then top those 4 tops and Tie them down so they are all horizontal then let the resulting 8 tops grow up to 8 inches then you will get a nice little Bonsi tree

sounds interesting! so veg to 2 nodes, then top, and top those four that come out.

how long does that process take? Do you have any picture examples?

Veg to the 5th node and then top just above the 2nd you will get 2 branches from the 1St node and 2 from the 2nd then when they grow a few nodes top them and tie everything down

sounds good. not that I know much I just hope you know what your telling me is worry proof.

so just so I'm clear: veg to 5th, top just at the 2nd. Then I top the two that come out of the FIRST top ***after THEY are how many nodes long?***

To just above the second node and it will force the first and second node to send out branches....when those branches get a few nodes top them just above their first nodes....that will send growth to the first node of each of those branches pushing out 2 from each of those trial and error as long as there are nodes below where you cut there will be new growth

Honestly i dont think 30 inches would be enough. Your pot should be about 10 inches tall so thats only 20 inches of growth. And you would need about 5 inches since your using cfls so thats about 15 inches of growth. Meaning your plants would be very small because its ideal to start flower at about 12 inches. Which then it stretch to about 25 inches. Your really would be on the lucky said if you dont run out of room

Ive decide to switch to 6 inch wide by 5 inches tall, so 30- 5 = 25- 5+/- for lights at top = 20 inches

20inches of free space, start flower at 10inches?

I think im going to try what tusseltussel said about topping them. making them bushier.

This is for experience and fun, nothing professional. just trying to make it work.

Is there something wrong with flowering at 10 inches for a bullshit CFL grow? It will still bud, right? even if i flower at 12, these are cfls. its NOT going to explode like an HPS flower, right?
