CFL Bulb Screen

so i was thinking...

since CFLs dont penetrate worth a shit any considerable distance away, and you have to move them constantly and try and keep all the bulbs at a good spot,

wouldnt it be a good idea to make a little net screen thing around the bulbs, thus keeping out all the vegetation from touchin the bulb and burning,

BUT having it close enough, like a milimeter away, to get great light absorbtion and penetration.

sound good no?

i rigged up a crude version of this last night and have a bulb riight up against a bud site and the nug is deffinatly denseing up a bit

Especially when plants are growing rapidly I think you just have to adjust lights often. Plus closer than two inches for a cfl from foliage is not a good idea. Neither is more than two inches.

Wow, thats not a bad idea. Considering I have been growing since Nov.2007 and I have never thought of this. Did you read this some where? Or did you come up with the idea?:peace::joint:

came up with it mahself thank you very much lol...

but yea i totally disagree with the poster that said light less the 2 in away is not good...

i have it only a couple mm's away from a single budsight now and it is working great... once i get time ima make a couple more better screens then the ghetto one i made last.

anddd..... yea scrog would work even better with this idea... imagine a scrog witht he lights even closer, it would kill.

with the screen you dont really have to move the CFL bulbs at all the screen allows plenty of light output and keeps the veg out.
ill put up pics when i make something nice.

annnnnnnnnnd dont CFLs put out much better and more useable light then HPS or MH, just the light cant travel as far? so these screens would totally eliminate that problem.

I use these which keep most foliage away plus added benefits of being really cheap and you can move them in a jiff. Also, most come with an outlet in-cased above the handle so you can string them along.;)

Yes, CFLs put out more light in the blue/red spectrum than MH or HPS, both of which put out a lot of yellow/orange light (which plants *can* use, just not as efficiently as red/blue).

I'd be careful putting anything close to a CFL bulb. Despite common misconceptions that these lights don't get hot enough to burn, they DO get hot enough to burn (got blisters on my arms and a melted length of nylon rope to prove it, too!). Soooo, just make sure the screen you're using isn't flammable =)

How interesting. I just had this same idea today and did some sketches/brainstorming on it. Decided to research it and here I've found a thread.
