certain brands of kitchen towel unsuitable for germinating?

Hi, thanks for reading.

I'm in my second year of growing on a small hobby scale. 2nd half of last year i germinated 5/6 seeds without really giving any thought to what i was doing, while this year i have only had 5/11 get above ground so far. i have been thinking about what i might be doing differently, and the only thing i can think of right now is the brand of kitchen paper i have been using has been the high end, soak up a fucking lake kinda stuff that has been on special offer in the supermarket.

the first 3 this year i germinated on a coffee shop napkin because i had no kitchen roll, but since they ran this promo in the supermarket i have only had this seriously absorbent shit, so i wondered if something intelligently designed to absorb water and keep it from the surface was really the ideal medium to hatch beans?

anyone have any issues with this before?

I've had no issues. Then again I just stick seeds in dirt and let it be. Usually works. I could see where a super absorbent could be an issue but I don't. Keep trucking from grandmah

Yeah, I popped some last week sometimes and I was using the super absorbant napkins. I ended up adding water about 3x a day to keep them moist.

Some of the cheaper brands of paper towel are not quilted. You want quilted paper as that type is best at holding water and air where it is needed. Good luck, BigSteve.
