Carbon Filtration

Hey guys I'm going to be growing out of a 4ft tall by 3ft wide by 2ft deep box (a converted dresser chest of drawers, I know, super sneaky)and I am going to run 2 4"ducts an in, and an out, the out will be carbon filtered to remove odour in the flowering stage.

I have two questions.

First: I've heard duct fans pull air much more efficiently than they push air, so would it be best to put the carbon filter in between the box and the fan, and have the fan pulling on the filter to bring air out of the unit (with another fan pushing air inside the box so that pressure pushes it out the OUT duct? OR will it be just as effective to put the filter at the end of the ducting and just push air out of it with the duct fan?

Lastly: If I'm picking up an activated carbon product from say, a pet store, (i'm making my own carbon filter from scratch basically, I'm tight for cash) how long should the filter last before the carbon is used up and the smell begins to start again, in other words, how often should I need to replace my filter?

Thanks in advance for the help :)
