Carbon Filter that is higher then your CFM?

I am currently in the process of choosing a carbon filter that will fully rid my grow of odor when folowering comes along. After some research I have decided to go with Mountain Air. My problew, however, lies in the fact that I have a Vortex 6 inch which is specced to run at 449 cfm and the only filter options I have are 265 cfm and 580 cfm. I don't mind at all getting the larger size, its just my question is will that filter be okay even though my fan is smaller then its recommended size? Logic would tell me that since the CFm is higher it only means that it will adequately scrub all odor because there will never be too much air passing through to go overboard but perhaps im missing something?

The larger is better, less restriction.
Larger number means it is capable of flowing larger quantity of air.
Does not mean you MUST use it all.

Yup what he said, bigger is better. I was going to get the phresh filter 6x16 because the cfm's matched my can fan 6 in HO 440. I ended up spending 10 bucks more on ebay to get the 6x24 thats rated for 550cfm. The bigger the surface area the better, more smell to catch.

I use a 600CFM filter with a 300CFM fan.

Currently growing some stinky cheese and it filters everything.

IMO its always best to go bigger on the filter than your fan.
