@OldMedUser I've made too many rooky errors on this grow but I'm learning lol. Growing in soil, fed them npk at veg with seaweed and kelp liquid, then went more organic in flower, bone meal, bit of pk, potash, refused to spend $ on over xpensive specialised nutes. I'm gonna use over the counter feeds on next grow again but get more bloom stuff I think. It's all an experiment. If u can recommend any I'm all ears
I mainly use AN 3-part nutes and get the Big Bud for my bloom booster. I've used that since it was invented and tried side-by-side with and without and it made a big difference so I'll use it forever. It has a higher K to P ratio than almost everything else going and works killer for pot. The nutes are pH Perfect so I never have to mess with pH using RO water. Did a lot of DWC since 2001 but mostly growing in soilless ProMix HP these days.
I've tried a lot of AN's different supplements over the years too but other than those things and some Rhino Skin for silica in DWC that's it. Epsom salts are cheap and any old CalMag will do. I grind up some of my vitamin and mineral supplements to give them some extra goodies a couple times each grow. Zinc, iron, ascorbic acid/vitC, selenium, B1 and a little citric acid. Just did that over the last few days.
Stuff like bone meal takes a long time to break down before the plants can use it. Much longer than a flowering cycle so it's not much use to add it while growing the plants. The real organic growers mix all sorts of stuff up and let it 'cook' sometimes for months before using it to grow in. A healthy bioherd is needed as well to break the organics down into the salt forms that the plants eat. Using the hydro nutes makes everything available right now. I add a product called DynoMyco to help break stuff down and use our unsterilized tap water that comes from a dugout on my property for early waterings as it's chock full of healthy biota to help get the bioherd up to full strength. Lots of minerals too as it's about 400ppm and pH8. I'll pull it off a tap in front of the pump so it doesn't get any filtering. I have been experimenting with adding organics to my grows and it seems to work and the bud tastes and smells a bit better too. Just got bags of composted and sterilized sheep and steer manure and a big bag of earth worm castings. I'll add a cup of each to 10L of the Promix along with some frittered trace elements, dolomitic lime, agricultural gypsum, lobster/crab shell, and a good dose of that DynoMyco then moisten it well with dugout water and some carbs like unsulfured blackstrap molasses and local unpasturized honey. I'm going to mix up a tall RubberMaid tub of that and stick it in the grow room to keep warm for a couple months and cook. Try some side-by-side growing with that.
There's no end of things to experiment with and you'll never learn it all but it sure is fun to try.
My current grow as of tonight. Big tall monkey Banana Kush in the back right and the other big one is an Earth Lover high CBD and almost no THC from a cutting I got off it's mom I grew outside last summer. Had to crop her a couple weeks early as it was snowing and getting a little chilly even in it's little greenhouse with the heater. Got almost a pound off her tho.
The little ones will be going upstairs into a 2x4x5'h tent I bought last week along with that little LED light, 4" exhaust fan and nice air pump. Needed a place to veg those little ones while I flower out those other two. The 5 white pots are Nepali Temple and the other 4 are a 3:1 high CBD strain called Sebring's Revenge. All are regular photos so I'll be having to sex them soon and by the time the others are done I'll have some of those to flower. I just repotted them a few days ago and they are really liking that LED. Called a 1500W and pulls 207w from the wall according to my power meter. Will work just fine in the tent. The other light is a 400W CMH bulb running off a 40 yo magnetic HPS ballast. Will be switching to a 600W Hortilux SHPS for flowering.
