Canfilters and Smells??

Im thinking I could easily make a can filter with some activated carbon pellets, But Im curious just how well any activated carbon filter works in a room full of flowering plants under 2 1000w lights.

Do the can filters Eliminate All the harsh odor, or do they just help a little bit?

Every grow I have been to is out in the boonies and its not a problem, Im in town and and keeping this one extra stealth so the less odor the better.

I was talking to the guy at the local hydroponics store here, telling him that my partner says he can make carbon filters. I was told that the expense is in the carbon, for what that's worth. After talking to this guy though I decided I didn't want to build one - I'd prefer to buy one pre-made.

Let us know how it goes with making one : I am curious myself. Good luck!

I personally feel anything worth doing is worth doing right-- and the fragrance of flowering plants will greatly be reduce/eliminated if you obtain the right product. I would never tell someone not to learn from their own mistakes, but I would look up some DIY filters on rollitup to see if anyone has been satisfied by building their own.

I have 1 can filter in my veg and 1 in my flowering space. They have completely solved any odor issues I used to have. I have been using the same ones for about 8 months. They recommend changing the carbon pellets every 12 months. I am super happy with mine. I am flowering 8 plants and vegging 30 clones & 3 mothers. I am flowering under 400 watt hps.

Thats good to hear, I was mostly wondering how effective carbon pellets really are. I can get the activated carbon A Lot cheaper than premade canfilter.

It would be simple enough, for an outer shell something simple like a plastic garbage can, for the inner core chicken wire wrapped in screen mesh hooked up to the intake of my air pump, this core would be surrounded by activated carbon pellets, a nice 3-4 inch layer at least for long life, then duct tape it all up, the garbage can would have holes drilled all over, then wrap it in some 3M pre filter pads shown in some of the DIY carbon filters. Its the same concept as the big expensive canfilters, just beefier and hopefully it will last longer.

Anyways if the carbon pellets can handle the odors I think they will be the better investment.



**They recommend replacing just your carbon pellets? So is your can filter easily refillable and reusable? I will have to look in to that.

i saw the same thing on overgrow years ago. but use a clothes hamper instead of a garbage can. the holes are already in it. and 4" of carbon is way overkill. make it 2 and buy enough carbon for 4. then change it once. this will last longer
