Can you clone like this?

Posted this previously in Advanced Growing section, but apparently the pedobear frightened everyone, and nobody with advanced knowledge was able to answer the question. Hopefully someone here can give me a definitive answer.


I have some of those "inflatable" Jiffy 7 peat pellets, this is the easiest and most economical way I could think of to clone, please let me know if it would be feasible.

Take cutting
Do the standard lower leaves peel
Dip in $950 per pound Clonex
Stick in inflated peat pellet
Place in 16oz party cup
Wrap pipecleaner around pellet and stablizize with inside of cup to keep it from falling over
Keep about 1/3 inch of water in bottom of party cup to be absorbed by peat pellet
Mist a few times a day
Leave saran wrap on top for humidity dome

Rep for confirmation that this should work to develop roots, or for a similarly ghetto cloning strategy that is confirmed to work.

you gotta keep that pellet pretty moist.

You will not need to keep water on the bottom...Just let em swell in warm water until they expand...Just check on them everyday and when they look a little dry, I just use a syringe to shoot about 5-8ml of water on em.....and yes...use the saran wrap!!! The high humidity keeps em pretty moist!!!

Everything except the water in the bottom of the cup - once expanded they should have plenty of water and don't need to be waterlogged.

That is pretty much how I did my last batch of 8 clones, 100% strike rate in about 7 days.

Sorry, meant gallon

Bought it from the local hydro store for 25$ for a 100ml bottle. One Gallon = 3785 ml

3785 / 100 = 37.85

37.85 x 25$ = $946.25, or roughly $950 per gallon, but that wasn't the point of this thread....moving on now.



As far as everyone else goes...the water in the bottom was because the pellets dry up pretty quickly, but I guess with the saran wrap the drying time would be a lot longer.
