Simple as that - can smoking a large amount of a certain strain of weed (or a variety, whatever) and go temporarily blind from it? My friend said it happened to him once, and my other friend says its not possible, whats your take?

No.

The only thing that could resemble going temp. blind would be if you were getting lack of oxygen to your head and you have some sort of blackout. But blind, no.

sounds like he was so fuckin stoned he wouldn't know if he was blind rofl. never heard of a recorded case of blindness due to smoking weed. what i do know however is smoking too much can lead to depression because i've been there and done that.

But how much is too much smurf? And some sites actually say that it helps relieve the symptoms of depression and some mental illnesses.

My experience with depression is that it was caused by past life experience. I use pot to help me stay on top of it. I have a post in a thread somewhere here explaining it all.

In the past month or so, we've been away from our home town and out in the country, meaning we don't have a regular (or any) supply. In the last two weeks, I've had to go to a Psych and doctor to get put on anti-depressants to try and lift my mood. Pharmaceutical Anti-depressants can take six weeks or more to begin to work. However, one to two grams of decent weed a day keeps me balanced.

To make matters worse, the GP I'm seeing has prescribed Temazapam to try and help me slep. Sorry, but I won't stick that sort of physically adictive poison in my body.

Well of course it can; I thought everyone knew that. The Cannabis Journal of Scientifical Evidentary Non-Findings puts the daily amount required to cause blindness at 3.84205247 grams, set influx per diem facto 72h. This simply means that if you exceed 3.84205247 grams every day for more than 3 days in a row your eyes will immediately start popping their retinal node receptors causing blindness to occur in a matter of seconds. There is hope (at least for men) however, as evidenced by this quote from the journal: "Current evidence suggests that a full penilectomy (complete removal of the penile organ group) prior to exceeding the given factor of
3.84205247 grams per day over the stated time period may induce sufficient positive retinal node receptor response to avoid the sudden onset of blindness in this fashion. At the time of this writing 42 male subjects have undergone a full penilectomy for the purposes of the study and none have experienced blindness, despite the efforts of the scientists involved to create such an effect in the manner stated. Unfortunately, although blindness appears to have been averted with the removal of the penile organ group, the male subjects did experience a notably higher pitch in their voices upon completion of the penilectomy. More studies are currently underway."
