Hi friends, new member here on my 2nd grow in Nova Scotia. This summer has been extremely hot (by our standards) and where I am there's been no rain for more than a month. Very unusual. My four plants are all in a spot well exposed to sun, probably 10 to 11 hours of direct sunlight on a south-facing slope. Last year we had normal precipitation and rarely had to add water from our well, only when the soil seemed to be drying out. The plants are in the ground in a mixture of potting soil, composted cow manure and my local dirt, which is part of an old hay field. I've been giving it liquid Miracle Grow about once every two weeks.
I can't tell if they're getting enough water. I pour it on, it disappears rapidly. But there is clay in the local soil, so I can't tell if the holes are retaining too much water or allowing it to drain and they're not getting enough
My question is: for a plant five feet tall and four to five feet wide, what would be the water requirement, given Mother Nature isn't helping this year? Does a plant that size need a gallon every two days, or once a week? I have one plant that is getting yellow leaves at the top, impeding flowering. Advise me.
