Can Patient Rights Be Sold?

I am looking to expand my grow operation by taking on more patients, but I don't know anyone else that would like to sign me as their caregiver right now. A grower friend of mine offered to let me have some of his patients in return for a donation. Can this be done? Is it legal or at least acceptable? Has anyone else tried this or heard of this?

From everything ive read about this (and I am by no means an expert) it is my understanding it is up to the patients themselves that choose their caretaker. making it NOT ok for one grower to just pass off patients to another grower. What he may be able to do is ask them to change themselves to you.
