can I use two differant size lights ?

Hi I'm wanting to grow about ten to twelve plants I've got a 600 watt and a 250watt HPS lights can I use them both togeather ? If so how many plants can I get under them and what sort of distance would I keep between the plants and each of the lights ? Would plants under the 250 watt not be very good ? Nuff love people all help will go along way

Of course you can, my friend has a 150W HPS, a 250W HPS, a 400W HPS AND a T-5 flouro with red spectrum bulbs ALL running together in the same space on a 12/12 perpetual grow. Works like a charm for her. As she harvests plants from under the 400, the ones under the 250 take over that spot and the plants under the 150 take over the 250 spot and she germs more beans under the 150. It's like a little cannabis assembly line, she's got her shit dialed in.

How many square feet you looking at?
How big are the plants going to be?
Keep in mind the more Lumens per square foot the more Robust the growth.

Yes you can use different types\wattages of lighting in the same room, that will be fine. A 600 watt bulb will cover a larger area and penetrate better than a 250 watt HID lamp, and can support the growth of larger plants. A 250 watt bulb will cover a 2' by 2' area, while 600 watts can cover an area of about 4' by 4'. How many plants exactly depends how big. The 600 could support 12 or more smaller (1' or shorter) plants or up to 8 moderately sized or less than 6 larger plants. A 250 on its own is good for a couple plants which shouldn't be allowed to get very tall.

What exactly is the size of your grow space? I would hang the 600 slightly offset the center of the grow area, a bit further back, and then the 250 about 2 ft away from that. If possible keep the 250 lower than the 600, and put the taller plants underneath the 600 watt lamp.

I'm looking to use. A 4 by 8 foot tent next I want to go for a big yield I was thinking maybe just buy another 600 and use two of them for perhaps ten or 12 plants what would you advise ? And green like money do you think ild benefit more with one tent with 600 watt with say 6 to 8 plants and use my smaller light in another tent 4 weeks later ? And perhaps 4 weeks later start a a new lot vegging under a 150watt hps or cfl or something or should I up lighting or down. Number of plants for decent yields

IMO- The More Light The Better.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that light output of 2000 lumens/sf of growing area is the minimum required for germination and plant growth. Moderate growth will be achieved with 5000 lumens/sf, and optimal growth will be achieved with 7000 lumens/sf or higher."

Bottom line the more light and lumens and care in between = larger yield. Less light equals less yield. You can put IMO 2 1000w HPS on 2 plants and the yield will be almost double the yield of 1 1000w hps in the same situation. That's information that I have gotten from reading a ton. Yes, you can. Try to get between 40-50W/sqft of canopy.

If you raise a light, it covers a larger area, but with less power per area. The key is to get between 40-50W/sqft covering the canopy of your plants.

You shouldn't really use watts square foot.
You can have a 600watt ballast, but depending on MH or HPS you have different Lumen out-puts
600watt Bulbs, different Lumen output per Manufacture.

Thanks youVe been of good help !! So two 600 s it is then for better yield and I've seen some were two 600s are cheaper to run ? So 12 plants under two ligts 11 litre pots good soil and nutriants correct ph etc could I look to reigon of two ounce per plant ? I cud also stagger two sets of 6 plants in there with 4 week between the correct and have a continuous cyle like that ? So much easier now I got pros to talk too !!!

Four under each lamp at all times. but remember, she runs a 12/12 from seed perpetual grow, so her plants are smaller since they basically have no veg period. Although smaller, she harvests about 7 ounces every month from October until June. Her last germination is early February ( finishing up early June then she shuts down the area during the Summer to avoid high temperature problems and allow her to vacation without worrying about her plants. She starts up germination again in early August and germinates for 4 plants every month until February. Basically, she harvests 8 times a year totaling about 3 1/2 pounds, more than enough for her personal use and she gives the rest away to some friends who have medical issues.
