Ok first post. I just moved into a new room and Im burning 02 out of a 20lb tank. I just noticed there is a wall furnace in the room which is hooked up to natural gas. I checked the thermostat and set it to 60 so it doesnt get to cold at night. So my ? is, can the 02 coming out of the tank, mix with the wall furnace and blow up.

in your post you state you are "Burning O2" I am going to assume you meant CO2. If this is the case then no you will not blow yourself up since CO2 in non flammable however with that said you also state you have a wall furnace in the same room which needs oxygen to burn cleanly. If this is in fact one of those wall units i would be more worried about carbon monoxide build up which will happen when you dont have the required amount of oxygen for it to burn cleanly and safely. What will happen is with the decrease of oxygen in your room (Caused by both the furnace and the co2) the furnace flame will start to turn orange instead of blue and start to smoke.

Now with all this said if you are monoxide releasing pure Oxygen out a tank into a room with a wall furnace you would have already blown something up. Be safe and good luck. Also i am not an expert so take this with a grain of salt and do some more research for your own peace of mind.
:peace:

Just re-read your post. If this furnace has clean air intake from some other part of the house then you should be ok but the ones that are wall mounted are usually ventless which would be what i was talking about above. get a CO detector and keep it in the room.

oxygen doesn't burn, you need it to burn things but just oxygen itself won't blow up. I don't think the levels of o2 you would be producing could have any negative effects(death by explosion). But i'm not an expert either.

Hey thanks for the help. I was not sure if the C02 bottle was flamable, but I think I will shut the furnace off just in case.

Unless does anybody know if there is a way to hook up a wall furnace to a control box, so it will click on when the fans click off. Im not sure what model box I have, but when the temp hits its setting the fans shut off and the co2 bottle comes on. Since the wall furnace is right there it would be great if I could plug it in to my control box. Thanks. again for all the help.

What you state is true but because there is an open source of flame and oxygen is in fact an eccelerator and fire needs oxygen to continue consuming it would be a bad idea to have free flowing oxygen in the same room as an open flame. To me this is just standard safety just incase that furnace has some sort of flare up.

yeah, but now he's saying he's got co2 - which is safe to run in the same room as the furnace... big difference between o2 and co2 - one makes the fire burn faster, the other puts the fire out....

if you have a burner there are natural gas conversions....my burner runs on propane or natural gas...my point being if you unhook your furnace tap into your co2 burner and never worry about filling a bottle again:)

Hey has anybody tried one of the hydro gen water cooled burners. They seem pretty affordable.
