hey guys i have a 3x3 area for my veg room...
already got my flower room set
this is what i have in mind for veg room

what do you think about using 6 of these suspended from the ceiling lined up evenly
Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

with these bulbs in them
n:vision 27 Watt Daylight Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL), 1 Pack - 5M82755K at The Home Depot

veging maybe 6-7 plants

Now these CFLs say its a 100 watt light but only draw 27 watts
does that mean a light fixture rated for 75 watts can handle them ?
i know you shouldnt put a 100 watt cond bulb in them .. but what about the CFL ??????:wall:

You should be fine man.. The 100 watt listing is a comparison to old technology. Ur only draw 27 watts so a 75 w plug should be just fine..

Yeah, that should work - with a couple of modifications:

1. Drop down to the smaller sized reflector that they carry, it's the same thing except it's only 5 1/2" in diameter. You will have to do this so you can fit more lights in there - read on!
2. In order to cover 9 sq.ft. you will need THIRTY-SIX of those to do do the job right (IMHO).

You actually picked a good CFL for vegging and these reflectors work great (I use this combination myself on small plants and clones).

to do the job right as you say would cost about 600$ to do it that way and would be pulling more watts than my hps/mh flowering setup ... and might as well buy a MH setup strictly for veggin also
----------------------
let me explain what i want to do a little better ...

i want to establish 3-4 mothers and keep them veging with a couple other non pot plants. on the strictly veg side

i will use the MH to veg the clones for a couple weeks then switch to the HPS 12/12
---------------
so i dont really need a very strong set up for the strictly "veg side"
------------------
would it be better do go with 2 3ft flouresent t-5 ?

im trying to do the veg side cheap as possible just so the mothers stay healthy.... i can also put them under the MH while im growing the clones for a couple weeks until i start to flower

ideas ?

I would hit www.htgsupply.com and pick up a 600w Digital with HPS/MH Kit and cool tube. If that's pricey I just bought the 400w setup it was under $250 with hangers and dual timer. You will want to have 2 separate rooms trust me. If you divide a room you MUST make it light proof.
and for cost effectiveness I would use CFLs or T5s for the Grow/Mother room.

yea i just got the digital 400 watt with the easy cool 6 for the flowering room.. both are divided so light does not interfear with either

would 6-10 27w cfls be enough to keep 3 mothers alive ?

i have 1 room divided into 2 ... if you check my journal in my cig you can see how its coming along...

Dude you can get that same reflector at Home depot by the cfl's they also carry like 4 sizes of those same reflectors in lowes. i have a 12 inch reflector just like that from lowes I have a 75w warm cfl in it real 75 watts and i have 3 small relfectors that I got from home depot check it out. their also cheaper at HD or lowes.

I would skip the t-5's unless u can get em cheap. Wally world has a cheap $10 2ft reflector. I think they are t-12. It a cheap 2000lumens. I would that for ur clones and seedling. Then mh for moms and rooted clones.

You can get T5s at pet stores for fish tanks, about $10 and they come with a reflector, they are used on the tops of fishtanks as lighting.. :D

make sure you don't buy a UV one though.

you can get 250w cfls called envirolites they are about a ft long and dont need a ballast , they just plug into an e40 socket and straight into the mains , they are 100% correct PAR for growing and come in a blue 6400k bulb for vegging and a red 2700k for flowering , ive used these lights with a good reflecter and had excellent results , allthough i will say hps is still better for flowering but these will give you nice buds when used correctly . there is also talk of them bringing out a 400w bulb soon which will be interesting . look on ebay for cheap deals .
