My cousin brought me some Cali Connection Blackwater seeds this xmas.

Germinated three of the ten seeds, all popped within 3 days. Tossed them in Fox Farm Ocean Forest and they sprouted about 3 days after that.

6 100watt CFL bright white lights > for now
Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil
Average 68 degrees and 35% humidity
No nutes yet but will be using Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Grow

The pictures are roughly a week after the seeds popped.

All advice is welcome.

Not bad start man... U can put those light 3-6" away... I kept mine around that way.. Do the lights hinge at all like can u hinge them towards the plant? To get both of em closer??? Jus sayin I noticed mine didn't stretch that much when it grew keepin lights closer to it... But it's a good start.... Good luck

Thanks for the support! Hopefully I will get at least one female to clone out and have a few plants to harvest come June/July.

I have some work to do on the closet this weekend. Just moved into the space so nothing is "ready" yet. Still need to line the walls with reflective material, get the fans in place, more lights, etc.

I did drop the lights a bit closer to the seedlings the other day, maybe 3 inches from the top leaves now. They hinge when they are connected to something but since they are just hanging now, there isn't to much I can do. Will get new pictures up after this weekend. Thinking I am going to transplant into the 3.5 galloon containers this weekend too. Still noodling on that.

Got the room set up for the most part. Lined the walls with permaflect and added a 7th 100 watt CFL. Will still be adding some fans up top when the plants get a little bigger as well as 3 more lights for veg.

The plants are still in FF Ocean Forest but were moved to 3.5 gallon buckets. Have had quite a bit of luck with the 3.5 gallon buckets during the past grows so no point in changing that. The FF seems to be a little hot for seedlings (hence the leaves starting to curl) but they will survive. No signs of yellow so I think we will be ok.

Room temperature is still sitting around an average of 73 degrees and 37% humidity. Not as warm as I would like but it should help bring out some of the purple coloring later on.

The four pictures show the new closet setup as well as an individual of each plant. They are all still pretty small but they were only planted 3 weeks ago. I also buried a bit of the stem when moving them from the dixie cups to buckets. I have a feeling the 3rd plant maybe a random seed that got mixed in. It doesn't seem to have the same characteristics as the other two (fat leaves and strong smell) but still a little early to tell.

Plants are really starting to take off. The one continues to show signs of a nute deficiency but growth doesn't seem to be affected.

7 100watt bright white CFLs
3.5 gallon buckets filled with FF Ocean Forest
No nutes
Average temp 72 degrees
Average humidity 38%
18/6 light cycle

Plants are growing thick and bushy. The one is still showing signs of discoloration in the larger fan leaves, still not sure what the issue is. The middle one is growing great, hoping that one is the female. The third one is still a little scrawny but has really picked up over the last week.

Added 3 more 100 watt CFLs bring the total to 10. Still no nutes, would like to stick strictly to water until I know A.) the sex of each plant and B.) get a few clones. The plan is to grow out three plants, using different nutes on each to see which works best with the strain.

Anyone have any guesses as to which may be a female, based on growing style?

Lights: 10 100 watt day light CFLs. 18000 lumens.
Nutes: None. Just plain tap water that sit for 3+ days
Soil: FF Ocean Forest
Average Temp/Humidity: 70 degrees/40%
18/6 Light cycle

I dont think you'll be able to tell the males apart from the females until they show preflowers. Beutiful plants bro, I've been kinda interested in blackwater for a while now. Pullin' up a chair for this one.
Good luck!
Oh, and are you sure those arent 100w equivilant cfls? They look a little small to be 100 actual watts.

Yea, sorry, they are equivalents. I think its like 23 watts officially, I just refer to them as 100watts because I am lazy.

I think two of the three are males. Starting to show some very small pre-flower balls at one or two nodes. The suspected males are also about an inch or two taller and have 2 or so less nodes than the suspected female. Should know in the coming weeks. I will post some new pics in the next few days.

In general, the plants are really growing well. It's a good strain, although by far the smelliest I have grown thus far. Less than 50 days in and they are already smelling up the house... Not that I am complaining.

No sure if anyone is still following but grew out 3 more of the 10 beans - all 3 were male again. Hopefully will have better luck with the last 4 beans.

So I really dropped the ball on the updates and taking photos of the bigger plant before cutting her down.

I harvested two plants. Both were in 1 gallon pots - they were my sexting plants so i never let them get that big (as you can see). Both were topped once giving me four main colas. Temps were in the low 80s during the day and high 60s at night. I am in CO, so almost no humidity.

The first had zero notes given to it through the entire lifecycle, she was my constant. Showed a strong N deficiency with a month of flower and began eating her fan leaves for nutes. Bud production and weight suffered but the smell and taste is unreal. Pure grape candy. The stems went purple but none of the buds did. Harvested at day 59. She prob could have gone longer but I was leaving town for a week and didn't want to deal with it when i got back. Dry weight was just over half oz - 14.6 grams.

The second plant was given a cap full (i wasn't accurate with my measurements) of FF Tiger Bloom every other watering. Seemed to really like the nutes and never showed any issues. Flushed for two weeks. Big dark green buds but again no purple. Harvested at day 60, but again could have gone a little longer. Strong OG kush smell, almost no grape scent. Dry weight was just over an ounce - 29.2 grams. The photos of this one are the four main colas on the table with the scissors and the hanging buds that are much larger than the other pic.

I have two more that went into flower on October 2. Those were topped probably 4 times and are in 3.5 gallon pots, so they are going to be much much larger. Maybe I will start a blog.
