Bulb or ballast???

Just checked my grow and noticed the light was ever so slightly flickering and also my tent was a few degrees colder..anyways I stayed and watched the light for maybe 40 mins and the bulb kept coming on and off... Would stay off for maybe 3-5minutes then come back on for about 8 mins then off again... Ive put a normal house lamp in the tent on the same timer just so there's light in the tent when the hps turns off. Hopefully not messing up the cycle for when the hps turns off... Any advice is much appreciated

I'll replace the bulb tomorrow... Would the house light in the keep the cycle not messing up?... It's just a standard house bulb to keep them awake during the 12 hours of light

What type of ballast? sounds like a bad ballast when bulbs go bad they dont turn on an off the ballast controls that.

Replaced the bulb yesterday and seems to be working fine now... Even the tent is up 4° from when the previous bulb was flickering.. It normally sat at about 25° and when the buld was flickering it dropped to 21° hopefully the bulb stays as it

What do you mean by normal household lamp ??

If its an incandescent it's going to cause serious stretch
Small single led bulb... My thinking was that it would keep the plants awake until I got the problem fixed... Rather then the hps going on and off all night. I had it plugged into the same timer so when the hps went off that would stay on

As long as its not an incandescent.
The spectrum on those will totally fuck plants up when it's the only light source
