Building a simple cheap grow box

I'm a first time grower and looking to build a small grow box for my closet. I have about 4'x7' feet to play with. If anyone could give me any advice on what kind of materials to use, I've been searching the internet looking for things and it's either been too complicated or too expensive to build.

I was thinking of maybe cardboard or white foam core board, lights, and a fan with a carbon filter. Has anyone ever used white foam core board? I use it in my photography for light boxes quite often and I've never had a fire issue with any lighting equipment getting too hot on it.

Thank you!

i made one for cheap. wood for a frame and that "white on one side, black on the other" plastic to close it in. my local grow shop sells zippers that are on a sticky back. I put two on one side of the tent to create a nice big usable door. i then put the tent right in front of the 9500btu wall mounted a/c. the tent is 4x4x6 i have a 600watt hps with an air cooled hood that vents through my carbon filter, and a 200watt cfl. i use the co2 boost buckets that get changed every 90 days.

everything involved cost alot of money, but the tent itself only ran me about $35-$40. it has been working great for a couple of years now.

something smaller would never be able to supprt my wife and i with enough meds to make it between harvests. that foam cooler box, though a really cool setup, would only give you a half ounce every three months. and that's if you knew what you were doing.

it seems like you have plenty of room to work with. why not grow alot of herb?
