any advice on these choices
i started out with the rubbermaid boxes but need something bigger

i want to build a wooden box 2'wx4'hx4'L
i bought windshield shades for a buck apiece to line inside
will be using cfl's not sure which and what layout yet but plan to build a reflector
i was going to use passive intake
for exhaust I have a squirrel cage blower of a jenn air stove but it isnt quiet butt moves lots of air

I would like to grow 6-8 plants what number do u think i can grow in this setup
btw it is going in a crawlspace

If you're wanting to grow that many plants, you're looking at a few 250w CFL's. Or at least 20 43W CFL's. It'd be cheaper to buy a 250wHPS with cooltube and you'd get much better results. Those windshield shades work ok; flat white paint is better. Sounds like your intake/exhaust is all set; if you need a filter check out the DIY section.

dude you dont need 20 43w cfls. 2 per plant is good if you keep them small. like 75 watts per plant is fine . you could maybe get away with 50 watts per plant if you flower really early. and to purplhaze how do you figure 860w of cfl is equal to a 250 hps? not even close dude. telling him he needs 20 cfls is crazy. 300 watts of cfl performs almost as well as a 250 hps and 400 watts of cfl probably works better. 20 43 watt cfls is not even close to being equal to a 250 hps

Sure you dont need them; hell you could grow your crop with 1 CFL. What I was trying to say (maybe a exaggerated a bit) was that you'd need many more CFL's to do the job that 1 HPS bulb will do.

For example: a 400wHPS gives off 4000 lumens/sqft. In order to have that same penetration with CFL's, you'd need 20 or so 23W CFL's.

Sk8disgruntled: You tell him he needs two CFL's per plant, he wants 6-8 plants. 8x2= 16. I'm not sure what you're carrying on about...
