Bug ID help!

I have in the last couple of weeks had an infestation of what looks like gnats or some small fly type creature. In addition there are small what critters. Not sure if aphids or mites. No webs seen. Plants outside and flowering. Sprayed off leaves with water and used some insecticidal soap but it doesn't seems to help much. Any ideas or words of wisdom appreciated. I'm having the same problem, been using soap not helping at all. I'm wondering if they aren't thrips? I'm picking up some over the counter neem oil, I'll post results.

Interesting. Didn't know what those were so looked them up. They look a little different from what I have. I can't believe how fast these buggers have multiplied and taking over all my plants. The soap has turned all the pistils brown. Any idea if they will come back/grow more?

Sure hope so, I'm worried about using the neem oil as well. Iv read it can shock plant but hope is lesser of to evils.
 
So the nazi aphids have had their Stalingrad. I took a bar of ivory soap and put in a gallon of water and let it soak overnight. The mixture is working great. Numbers diminishing every day. Applying 2-3 times a day until I can't find anymore
