Budworm questions

Last week I found a brown worm about a half inch long munching on the very top of my best bud. Removed and squished it, and have been looking to see if there any more. So far no more crawling around where I can see.

The top of one bud today showed little dead leaves. I tried to look inside the bud and it came apart! I saw no worms though. Would the fact I see no more mean I only had that one if no more are visible, or if you have one do you have shitloads? No other obvious signs of damage, although overall my buds seem to be receding.

I',m roughly 2 weeks from harvest, do I spray now or assume it was the only one? If I have to spray, do I have to painstakingly open each bud top to bottom and spray, both sides? That could take some doing

i had 2 bud worms this year and didnt do anything about them besides scan ,scan, and scan every bud i could, whenever i could...didnt end up seeing anymore either...so my suggestion is scan whenever you can and if you see more then think about spray i guess...i hate spraying shit that close to harvest..

I picked up some caterpillar spray from the hydro store ( very expensive). Went out and on the same bud I inspected yesterday was a GREEN caterpillar. I swear I went thru that bud very well and saw nothing yesterday. Picked him off.

I opened up all the buds and soaked them with the poison top to bottom. Since I I have around 2 weeks to go, do I need to spray again, or in that time frame do I need to worry about more eggs and hatching and more bud damage? And should I rinse the plant/buds a day or so before harvest, or is that enough time for the spray to degrade and disappear?

Don't harvestmen (Opiliones) eat budworms and other small bugs? i have one or two of those guys living on my plant, seem to be doing a good job for me :-P Maybe try and find some of those guys on plants in the garden and drop them onto your plant.

Just googled that, you mean Daddy Longlegs? Haven't seen those, but I have seen little crab-like spiders on the plant

I use to have a issue with little knats and some common house flies hanging out around my plant. I found 2 daddy longlegs and placed them into my grow area and over the next few days all my bugs were gone....along with the spiders. I came to find the spiders in another room and they were about 2x the size as when i put them with my plant. So i guess they ate what they could and left to go find more food. I dont know much about bud worms but if the spider(Daddy Longlegs) can kill them i would try that.
