Is there any differences in your friends and your methods? (i.e. lighting, nutes..ect.) A WHOLE lot of elements can affect how a plant will turn out, even if it is the exact same strain from the same seed company. You said he was growing in a F&D hydroponic setup, which definitely could produce thicker buds than a soil grown plant, if done correctly. Not to say your bud isn't going to puff out in the next few weeks. You have great lighting so the only difference that I can see from the info we have is that you may be using different nutes which can make ALL the difference. Sorry if this doesn't help. Smucker is right, pics would really help. :)

So your friend did a hydroponic flood and drain and you're doing a top feed soil grow...
Yes, there are going to be differences. Growth rates particularly. Also, who knows what ppm levels you were using or your friend?

Bottom line though, you should expect a smaller harvest, but better quality, in you soil grow. Give them a good 10 weeks if you can manage it (so 3 more weeks) and I think you'll be very glad you did. Soil takes more time than hydro when it comes to packing on that weight.

Still though, unless everything was the same you cannot compare one grow to another just because they were the same strain. Compare the high off of each, compare the flavor, but you should have been expecting a lower yield I think.

Well said. It's a huge debate over soil vs. hydro. I personally believe with optimum knowledge and conditions an amazing plant could be grown equally between the two. But a great advantage to hydro is the shorter grow length so expect some weight a few weeks after his packed it on.
