Breeding question

I got some Ak-47s and want to keep only Ak-47.. If you breed from year to year with seeds from the original seeds you started with what happens? Will the potency drop if you keep breeding brother and sister? Any input would be helpful ..

i dont quite get your question but no need to be pollenating over and over cause once done right can bring you hundres of seeds

but id ont know what would hppen if you were to breed over and over agin to bro and sis

if you are selective about it and breed only the two best, it should get better. Write down 4 or 5 traits that you consider to be the defining features of the strain you are growing, then select the two plants that best exemplify these traits. Dwezel is right one well pollinated plant can give you hundreds of seeds. no need for multiple crosses just run your first run as a seed production run. cut all but the best male, and then let him do his thing. you can help him along by taking a soft artists brush and hand pollinating the buds.

I was told by another local grower that the strain would eventually, after three or four generations, loose all potency and turn into Indiana ditch weed if I didn't cross it with something else.. I was just wondering if they were full of it or if they knew something I didn't know... How long will I be able to store the seeds if I plant just for seed this year? I just love AK-47 and dont want to loose the potency or the seed.

breeding seeds from the same parents, so siblings brother/sister is a big no-no. its just like if you were to impregnate your sister, youd end up with a retard child. same with plants, but it wont really effect the 1st generation so much. the guy who told you this is right, but chances are all the plants wouldnt even make it to flower, due to unstable genetics, and inbreeding

from Wikipedia:

Inbreeding is the reproduction from the mating of two genetically related parents, which can increase the chances of offspring being affected by recessive or deleterious traits. This generally leads to a decreased fitness of a population, which is called inbreeding depression. Deleterious alleles causing inbreeding depression can subsequently be removed through culling, which is also known as genetic purging.

The only way id recommend to inbreed is if you got a KILLER bagseed strain you come across, and you want to save the genetics so you can cross it next year properly.

So then. What your saying in a nutshell would be to cross the Ak-47 with some killer that is grown locally. Hummm Im a little confused on how they get and keep a true AK - 47 seed if they have to cross it with something else. Dont get me wrong I wouldnt mind crossing it with the local killer but I desire my AK 47 which we all know as some of the best ever. Im very interested in "The Hog" strain and the 8 Mile High. I want crosses with all these but I dont ever want to loose my Ak- 47 ever again.
