Breeding for autoflower challenges

I took some commercial seeds, a feminized high CBD autoflower Cheese strain from Crop King Seeds and bred one of those females with a male from one of my own strains, a regular Blueberry-Dutch Treat CBD, third generation Y3 offspring. I harvested many seeds, sprouted 10 and have been growing them outside.

My understanding, however misguided, is that the first generation of this new strain should have two particular traits I'm hunting for: high CBD (or high THC), and autoflower or regular. So I thought the odds were that 50% of the offspring will be male, and I'll cull those once they start showing. But here's the kicker. I also thought that 50% of the offspring should have the autoflower gene, whether they're male or female.

Planted these 10 beans outside over a month ago and they are huge but none have the autoflower trait, and I'm bummed about this.

It seems like autoflower is a recessive gene. I don't have a ruderalis to play with. And because of the above outcome, so far I have no autoflower and may need to breed the next generation to find it. The second generation should have wildly different offspring, right? Some closely representing the grandmother (high CBD autoflower), some representing the grandfather (high THC regular), and the rest somewhere in between. I must be wrong about something.

Appreciate some breeding advice, I am just an amateur breeder doing it for fun and to experiment with new and interesting strains.

Only way to insure it's an auto is to take Auto fems and reverse to get Auto pollen

Now there are auto males of some strains, well regular seeds, that would work too


Yes the auto gene is recessive

You will need to make F2s. And with the F2 progeny, breed only the auto trait. Repeat till your happy or until stabilized

Thanks guys, was hoping at least 1 of the 10 F1s would have autoflower.

Outdoors here it freezes without covering/heat long before flowering finishes in the fall.
