Bout to start my first grow. Any help?

Hi there. I am about to start on my first ever grow. Ive been reading this site for weeks now and im sure im ready to begin as soon as the seeds come in. Ive done more reading on this site the past few weeks than ive done in years. I purchased some northern lights x big bud autos from herbies that should be coming in in next couple of days. I have some 3 gallon smart pots a couple bags of fox farm ocean forest. I plan on mixing in about 1/3 perlite. I plan on growing outdoors in my backyard in southern florida. Ill start with just 3 or 4 plants. I've read a few different ways to germinate seeds but I was wanting to start them right in the ffof soil so I won't have to transplant. One less stressor for the plants. Some people wrote not to start the seeds in the soil saying it might burn the seeds. What do you think? Since I'm using ffof when should I start the nutes and what nutes should I use? Will veg nutes be necessary? Any help will do and thanks in advance for any help. :peace: J5

If you can mix that ocean forrest with happy frog it would be great. Keep in mind the peat moss base is acidic so you can burn your auto's easily, be careful. I enjoy using fox farm's trio for soil. Here is there feeding chart http://foxfarmfertilizer.com/index.php/frontpage/feeding-schedules.html

just use the trio, follow this chart at 1/4 -1/2 strength and you can start at 4 weeks of plants growth, fox farm soil can be very acidic (hot). I use fox farm and love it. The ph runoff can be 5.0 straight out of the bag, make sure to keep the ph in check. Giving them water at a ph of 6.5 - 6.8 for the first month is the best thing you can do.

As far as nutrient feeding goes. Use a veg nute (grow big 6-4-4) till upward growth has stopped. Then switch to a bloom fert (tiger bloom 2-8-4) - fox farm also doesn't have any calcium or magnesium in their line up so get some cal-mag or unsulphured molasses. Starting at week 5 i add a tsp to a gallon of water every other watering for cal, mag, iron, microbial activity and it acts as a sweetner as well..

The only way you are going to learn is by experience. Make a journal, post pics, and we will all help you. Good luck.

You can start in your 3 gallon. I'd start them indoors though because of the controlled environment. You can start in ocean forest. Peat moss, as it breaks down, becomes acidic but contains oyster shell to balance your ph. As far as what you could use to feed something simple you can get is fox farms fruit & flower dry fertilizer. It's cheaper than those bottled nutrients and will last.

Should I not have to worry about ph because I'm using ffof? Should I wait four weeks to start using the ff fruit and flower. I've read elsewhere saying using ffof there will be no need in nutes for first four weeks. Thanks for your advice. J5

I plan on monitoring the ph for my water but I've read checking runoff from a smart pot is difficult. I figured as long as the water is ph balanced i should be alright. I will def make a journal and post pics. I'm very excited to get this going. Thanks man. J5

Ffof has oyster shell to regulate ph. You can always add dolomite lime/ garden lime or more oyster shell to ease your mind. I would add the fruit and flower at the third week do there's no break in feeding. I think fruit and flower has mycos or beneficial bacteria in it. I would follow half the recommendation on the bag to not burn your plants. Good luck.
P.S. This method of growing is organic
