Blue Dream and Pure Kush grow

Greetings all,

I just set-up at my new place and I decided to go smaller than I have in the past. I am going to use about 900 watts and I decided on hydro instead of soil. I will include as many pictures as I can and any notes I take.
Lights: Bloom-400wHPS YieldMaster II+250MH Complete, Veg.-125wCFL(6500K) EconoReflector
Hydro: Reservior-Rubbermaid storage containers with holes cut into lids for netpots filled with expanded clay. Recirculating water pumps with splitters and lines. Air pump with flexible airstones.
Nutrients: GH Flora Series(3-part)

The plants were given to me about 2 weeks ago and the Pure Kush (PK) was very well rooted but the Blue Dream (BD) cutting was only a few days old so I rooted that one before it joined the PK in the veg. box.

Here is a pic of the veg. box in a GL60 enclosure. The black wire is a thermometer probe to register solution temperature and the mylar helps keep the solution temps lower.

Enjoy!bongsmilie

After considering several methods I chose scrog for this grow. I also decided to top the larger plant using very sharp scissors and the FIM technique. I have never tried FIM before but I have always been curious and this is the perfect opportunity. The BD will have about a week to catch up to the PK and by that time the PK will have at least 2 main shoots plus several secondary shoots. I will most likely not top the BD so I can get these into bloom and make room for my next group of clones. I believe I can fill a screen half way in the next 14 days. Here is a pic of the top, this was the best I could do...

I made a screen out of cookie cooling racks and zip ties. The racks and ties were super cheap(both were 2 for $1 at the local dollar store). Using the zip ties I was able to attach the screen to the sides of the rubbermaid container lid which is my netpot insert; that way I can remove the whole thing and just swap bottom containers when I do a reservoir change and I can train branches up the ends. The PK is growing well and the BD is following suit so I plan to trim the lower growth later today to encourage the lower shoots to stretch up to the screen. I have been adding H2O2 to keep the roots healthy and I also drop ice bottles into the reservoir to keep temps under control. Here is a pic of the screen and the growth progress.SAM_1771.jpg

Looks like you are on the right track for now this is called baby sitting the fun will start real soon sub'd and looking nice so far..

They are all clones. The PK came from a bag of seeds from NorCal that were planted recently and I cloned the best girl in the garden after the plants had vegged for about 8 weeks. I know that it has a kerosene-skunk taste with a slight OG(lemony) type smell when smoked. The BD came from a dispensary in LA as a clone, I went with my buddy to get him some clones and he called me a month later to prune/clone his plants. That one is kinda musk-fruity taste with a totally blueberry smell. Here is a shot of them today

I put the plants under a 250MH so I could make room for some clones. The plants look great and the screen may work out pretty well. After a nute change to 1100ppm aggressive veg. formula, I decided to remove the water pump from my system and I am going stricly dwc. The flexible airstone works well to keep the roots above the water line moist so I don't need the pump. I won't be using the bloom rez pumps either. I figure I will start tying down branches in the next day or two at which time I can do some trimming too. The PK is about 12" tall.

Yep, first scrog but I have been doing research for awhile. Always wanted to try it but never needed to. This is my first 12-site perpetual harvest garden under 1000w so I need to maximize my light intensity and coverage plus my yield. Scrog seemed like the perfect choice.

Lookn good BW. They look to be growin good. Have u thought about maybe Lst'n em under the screen and scrog the branching?

LST-low stress training? If so, yeah I thought about it but decided to use the 3 branches below the screen as clones and the rest will be scrog on top of the screen. I am, however, changing my routine next time and I will train them to run under the screen and let the secondary shoots poke through the screen while still taking the lowest branches as clones. It seems like a smarter play.

Hey guys,
I've been super busy so here is the update:
I took 2 lower branches off the PK for clones. My plants look healthy and the screen I made is working well(it could use some improvement though). I am surprised at how flexible the plants are and how the different strains have different ability to bend before breaking. I have broken a branch on each plant(by accident) so now I'm familiar with how bending much they can take. My nutes are at 1200ppm and pH6.0 and I have them under a 250wMH, they have been on 12/12 for 10 days now so this is the stretch period. I plan to move them under a 400w HPS for the last half of bloom. Here is a shot of them today:

These plants have been on 12/12 for about 3 weeks now. A summer heat wave did cause my nutrient concentration to go up because of the increased water transpiration rate of the plants, it got up to 1500ppm and a few leaves got burned. I diluted as soon as I discovered it and the damage was minimal. Here they are today, still look pretty good...
