blower motor out of a dryer

does anyone know what the cfm would be from a dryer? i have a nice one here and i might use it for an exhaust fan but i dont know the cfm...
but it does look like it is a higher cfm...maybe 500 ish?

i'm thinking you'd have to look up the model of dryer, and look up the replacement parts.. and see what the CFM is on that blower.. i'm sure it's a pretty high cfm though it's a dryer blower.. i was looking em up online and they are in the 1000's of CFM some where 3000 cfm.. i'd look up the model and find out what motor it uses..

Alot more than that could be salvaged from a dryer and used in a setup too..

ya the whole dryer itself could be a nice stealth box

And the paneling would be ideal for a diy reflector etc, and theres a short-run timer and bigass relay in there, not to mention the drum motor itself.. Heck even the power-cord and lint trap could be useful..

the drum motor and far motor is all in one!!! one end runs the fun and the other is for the belt!!

ok well here is the setup i got... it was a maytag dryer, i took out the motor and fan assembly, and this is how i put it together... it may look like crap but it works really good and flows awesome, i do think its around 700cfm it will blow the hell out of ur face at 15 feet...
the room is about 15X10X6... but useable space is about 6x6
i thought this might be a good way to save a few hundred bucks
and this cost me 0 bucks to make!!!
i will be doing a carbon filter this weekend so i will post pics with that hooked up and running!!

Can't you find a way to make it bulkier though?? <JK> Definately a good way to save money..

Edit: How does it sound compared to when its loaded with the drum?

its about as loud as it was when in the dryer.. but im sure once i put a filter on it should be just right

Who cares about the CFM ? If it's free just use it and see if it works, if it doesn't you aren't out anything. If it's too loud you can get a speed controller on it and go from there.

ya the noise part is no problem for me... not at my house...(nor is this real, i photoshoped these pics) and it will just about suck the chrome off a chevy!! just in the works of a nice homemade carbon filter... harder then i thought, im trying to do a 3 foot by 6 inch filter out of metal screen.. i will do it tho

That would probably work fine with an actual can-filter.. eg a coffee can with a false bottom, simply filled with carbon, and a baffle to focus flow away from the can wall so its forced through more carbon.. Tech design is way more important when the fan isn't brutal overkill.. (not that I wouldn't jump at the opportunity to have brutal overkill regarding ventilation ).. I'd expect a dryer fan to have no problem pushing air through a foot of carbon based on the pressure/flow I've seen at various dryer vents..
