Best Yield Outdoors: Natural, LST, Topping?

This year I am going to try a few different things. I topped all my seedlings at 3 weeks. I will top them again once they are outside and healthy, and again if possible before it starts to bud. As soon as I do my second top I will begin to use Low Stress Training in hopes of making a "basket" out of the main top colas (hopefully like 6-8 of them) so they can get lots of light and air. This is similar the method commercial fruit growers do trees I learned this method here on RIU and I will link it if I can find it again.

topping sounds best to me if you can get em big tall and bushy. im not sure what LST is, im going natural i havent done nothing to it but give it nutes and im thinking im getting maybe a 8th off a 1.5' - 2' tall plant lol. chron-mids bag seed

^^ how long did you have it outside that sucks lol....

i believe it just depends on your situation....

if u just want yield dig big wholes and grow pine trees... lol... HUGE! 12+ feet lbs lbs lbs

but if you normal you dont wanna risk it like most folk and just do whatever feels right...

what do i know?

Topping works for me too. i do differant plants differant ways. some i have topped every node, and every branch. some i just do the top once and some of the branches. i like topping you get more colas and stronger plants i feel.

im not an expert, but i do have my theories from what ive seen and tried. IMO i would definitely top the plants if they are kush plants. my reason is because they are generally lower yielding and produce dense nugs and the nugs on the lower shoots dont get very big. so if you top, you are putting all the plants energy to the colas. with sativas, i havent had great sucess in toping, my plant produced 4 big colas but was Very flufy. but that was only once. you learn from experience and trial and error. play with it and see what works best.

Question though (relates to thread)-- when can you start LST

you can start lst at almost any point really... that's the beauty of it... low stress...

when you consider you can take a plant with 3 nodes (or much bigger) and break it in half and 9 times out of 10 it will live and sometimes even right itself you really can do a lot with just tying them down gradually

Ive had bad luck topping. I live in an area frequented by severe thunderstorms with 60+ mph winds and while my plants are in a fairly wind shielded area, All my topped plants ended up splitting in half at the first place I topped them while the ones I let grow naturally held up fine. I bandaged up the split ones and they all ended up coming out ok except for one I had to harvest early but I was kinda glad to have some smoke a a few weeks before I had expected it. It was still pretty good too. Im experimenting with lst'ing this year, so far so good. I should mention they were all over 10ft so they "caught" a lot of wind. Natural growing pot "sticks" out much more than topped or trained plants will, something definitely important to keep in mind.

as far as yield, I honestly didnt notice much difference. Just different sized buds. Naturally grown plants will have one massive cola that from my experience usually equals about half the total dry weight of the plant while topping will give you lots and lots of smaller more uniform buds. It did seem much easier to trim the naturally grown ones but it also took way longer to dry those huge colas than it did all the smaller one's from the topped plants. Basically you just gotta see what works best for you, your setup and your environment. try all three and see what happens!

Topped every node and branch? Please elaborate, please show me a photo, every node is every branch. Doesnt make 1 bit of sense. Please explain in detail for all of us.
