Best state for growing?

Me and my girlfriend are looking to move from the Southeast to a more friendly and lenient state. We want to live somewhere where we will have decent privacy, but don't like the country too much. Somewhere in the suburbs maybe. I know that the west coast is already over-crowded so maybe something like CO? Medium to warm climate. Any ideas?

I have some friends in CO... They love it.. great weather, not over populated and great medicinal, definately a lineant state. I love visiting CO.

I live in colorado and it's great except the real estate prices are comparatively quite high hear. Also if you like skiing it's a great place to live.
