Best potting soil?

My first grow ended abruptly about a week ago due to fungus gnat infestation from dirty potting soil. I already have my new seeds and the grow room is completely cleaned and sanitized. What is the best potting soil to buy? And what else should I mix with the potting soil for the best results for my plants?

I know people will say Im an idiot but Miracle Grow is where it's at.
You’re an idiot. ;) LOL (I didn't want to disappoint)

No, I'm kidding. But to be honest MG is not the best potting soil. Better to go with a quality potting soil without any timed nutes and for you to take control yourself. ProMix, Sunshine, Fox Farm.... any light and fluffy potting soil that holds water and drains well. If getting a good potting mix, you shouldn't need to add anything else. Maybe some perlite. Then feed when watering.

i use sunshine mix 4, dont add anything but the nutes in my water, which are the 3 ff listed above, i have never used but heard that miracle grow already has nutes in it so when you water with your nutes it kinda overdoses them... i also hear that the ff soil is about as good as the mix 4 but at the store i go to the ff is about twice as expensive so i go with mix 4 and i have never had any problems with it...

Correct me if im wrong but pro mix #4 is soilLESS mix. And ffof is a soil mix? I used ffof for quite some time, and as mentioned above pro mix is cheaper. I pay $30 for 1 bag of 1cu foot of ffof or i can get a 3.8 cu foot block of pro mix #4 for 50$...do the math. The fact you can leech salts easier with #4 sold me. ...once i used MG and will never again. What i used had osmocote( time release fert) in it. Long story short...big mistake. How can you flush something that will not go away? But to eash thier own...ur not an idiot in my book. Just someone pushing the envolope.

forgive me im on my phone and the picture is small on it. But that plant looks really stressed out. Yes mg is cheap..5-6$ a bag...and 5-6$ worth of headache and hassle...go spend $50 and get a block of soilless mix thats easier to deal with and will last you for many grows...remember you get what you pay for!

Use Fox Farm Ocean Forest or FF Happy Frog and Blue Mountain Organic nutrients. You'll be glad you did...all organic and when you fire up that first organic bud you'll sit back and smile!

I just picked up a couple bags of FFOF 1.5 cu ft for $ 16.59 here in the west. :leaf:

30% Fox Farms Ocean Forest
30% Happy Frog potting soil
30% Roots Organic Coco fiber
10% part perlite

Awesome ph buffering, good flow, and great end product - my success and failures at coming up with this blend = your benefit. Enjoy.

Make your own soilless mix, that way you know its clean :D

50% Sphagnum Peat Moss
25% Vermiculite
25% Perlite

And this mix lets you have complete control over what goes into your plant :D

I use Black Gold coco blend. with General Hydro Flora Nova bloom/grow and GH koolbloom later in flower. It works very well for me!

yeah, there's a local nursery/hydro store over in the next town. They have this stuff that I swear to you, must made specifically for growing cannabis. It's called 'Sunshine'. This stuff is incredible you guys would like it.. I bet some of you would anyways. I'm sure that there are other better soils, but as far as something from the shelf.. it doesn't get much better.

I'd like to try Fox Farms.. or something of that nature. But currently, I don't have a penny in my name. Or even in the bank account.. I am at ZERO. funds.

I would say for a newbie get the fox farm light warrior. Its a seed starter and wont burn your new clones or seeds. Give it just water for aboput 2-3 weeks then trans plant into fox farm ocean forest. Giv just water with no grow nute for 1 month. By then you should be ready for bloom and just add a bloom nutrient. I use bloombastic. Its expensive but its the best thing I carry in the store. For more advanced growers its gonna be promix, sunshine4, or coco. These mixes are clean and need nutes unlike the ocean forest. Happy frog and roots organic are top notch soils too. I just prefer the ocean forest. Did a water run off test on some ffof and it was like 1200 ppm out the box. Hope this helps. WM
