best kind of light

I only have fluorescemt fixtures (2 fixtures, 4, 48" bulbs total)
I have 40 watt bulbs currently. Is there a better kind that fit in standard fixtures?

I got some, 85w & 105w flourescents from this place and they fit into regular light fixture 30 Watt Compact Fluorescents
