time out of mind

Hi. This is my first post. Thanks for the board. It's really informative. I'm going to make an attempt at maintaing a journal on this board.
I'm not entirely new to growing but I've never done one on my own...until now. I have been building a room over two or so months. Weekends mostly. 12 feet x 7 feet. Fully insulated and sealed. Good venting.
I have babies that are 5 weeks old. 8 fatties and 5 skinny things that look like palm trees. I'm growing in soil.
I see that it's typical with new growers and for me the same, I've been struggling against overworking the plants. I totally overwatered the cuttings when they were in rockwool and lost a bunch of them. They never rooted.
I started with about 35 cuttings and lost about 1/3.
The problem du jour:
Some of the fatties' leaves are curling. At least half of them. They are under one 600 hps lamp running 24hrs. I just figured out tonight that I have the wrong kind of light. It looks like I need an MH spectrum lamp for the veg.
Does anyone think this is the reason they are curling?
Earlier in the day I read that curling could be due to too much heat. I had my light at about 30 inches the first 4-5 days (the went in soil 7 days ago) but then then I went down to 20".
I am currently keeping it at about 30" again.
Oh, and I don't have air conditioning......yet. I have a little temperature guage right next to the dirt levels and it's 82 degrees.
Too hot, eh?
So I need at least two new lights, one immediately, and an air-conditioner.
I wonder if anyone has an opinion which to buy first???
Regarding the leaves curling, I'm going to post two photos.
One has leaves curling and the other is one that looks pretty good.
So thanks all of you for the really informative board. Hope to do my part.
Longest newbie post ever? Sorry about that.
Your's truely, time out of mind.
