Bat problem?

I noticed while building my room I'm hearing some squeaks from the chimney. I've always known there were bats in my neighborhood but looks like they are chilling in my chimney.
My plan is to exhaust into my chimney with a 6 in inline fan. Has anyone ever had a issue with the bats coming in the grow? Did the bats come down the chimney at all or did they just leave? I know its illegal to kill them and they don't recommend smoking them out. I'm wondering if i put a screen on the hvac ducting if that will be good enough?

I would call out pest control before I fucked with it man! The mesh will probably stop it from coming in, but if it dies in there it will smell wicked. Get a cap on your chimney so they don't come back. But your chimney is the perfect place for intake and outtake. Just make sure it's clear! It's worth the money trust me! I had a similar issue with raccoons!

I'm not really to keen on messing with bats either. I called a place and they wanted mucho money, So I'm trying to see whats available that I could potentially do.

You know what's really expensive?

Multiple rounds of rabies shots...

Multiple trips to the doctor to treat the bacteria infection in your lungs...

I would spend the money.

Bats usually cut out of there hideouts in the evening to go feed and fly around and do bat things .....anyhow your best bet if you don't wana spend hella money if you have time watch for when they leave then cover the top of your chimney with mesh or whatever .....even after that I'd still mesh your pipes ........we used to get them in our lift in our barns and that's what my grandpa used to do when I was a kid ......good luck.

might have to avoid the the chimney all together, after doing some research I found out its not a good idea to exhaust into a chimney that is shared with a water heater/furnace

bats are predators, do your thing and they will steer clear

and they can squeeze in thru the smallest hole(s), so it may be more than just covering the one area. i lived in an old farmhouse and would get them occasionally downstairs in the living area. had a Doberman that would launch himself off the couch trying to catch them in mid air. As long as the bats are healthy, no problem...but you don't know that until it's too late. and there is the concern about spore inhalation from droppings. you may want to bite the bullet and pay to get them removed and their shit cleaned out if you've got concerns. less than 5% of bats have rabies but 90% of rabies in US are caused by contact with them. they are not as disease ridden as people think, but rabies is a motherfucker.

Actually the chimney is the absolute worse place for an intake or exhaust IF you vent your h20 tank or hvac furnace. It can and most often will cause a blockage from the gas exhaust and will back fill your house wolith carbon monoxide and possibly kill everyone in the house.
