What a utter bummer , ive got a spare bulb for this light i got given my m8 just told me the spare is new so i thought id swap it to see if there was an improvement. checked the bulb 400w so cool screwed it in and noticed it was slightly bigger than the old bulb which read 250w so i thought i found my problem too small a bulb in there. Then thought to myself better check the ballast which is 250w damnit thats kinda pissed on my fire i dont know why i didnt check any of this before. so ive just put the original bulb back in. so turns out i only have a 250w hps now and we couldnt work out why my plants did better in his cab , damn stoners. there was no min or max on the ballast but im guessing it would be a bad idea to use the 400w bulb ?

yea ya wanna use the same wattage bulb and ballast .. with the 400 in the 250 ballast ya could end up with a fire!

Usually it's a bad idea. Most ballasts only support fixed tensions (either 150/250/400/600/1000W), except the digital ones, and boy are those expensive. So, if your ballast says 250w, I wouldn't put in a 400W. Nor I would a 150W.

u can use higher wattage bulb it just wont burn bright
but it wont start a fire
its like hooking a 220 v motor to 110v it just wont turn as fast

didn't think about it as a motor type thing ... i just wasn't sure if it would fuck up his ballast.

yeah but now uve taught me otherwise i think i might stick it in hahahah , but then i guess its be a waste if its not burning at its full potential id probably only end up with the same lumens as the 250 was putting out anyways ..... damn.

it really wont hurt to use that bulb. Go ahead and run it. I ran a 600 watt bulb in a 400 watt ballast in my veg room for months... if you really want the results get the hortilux bulb. if you look at the right places you can get a 400 watt horti for 30 dollars. i get my 1000 watt horti bulbs for 70
