Ballast broken ?

Hi,

I'm having a few issues with my grow light at the moment.

I went in the room yesterday to find my light never came on as it should. I thought it may have been the timer so took that out and plugged it in directly but still nothing.

I then switched the HPS light that was in with a MH one and that one worked, so i thought the bulb had broken.

I went in again today to find the light wasnt on again so switched it off then back on 10 minutes later and the bulb was attempting to light but wouldnt fully light.

Is my ballast broken ?

Thanks

in my experience, i've accidentally kicked the strip and flicked the switch, when i turned it back on it took a few minutes for the lights to warm up, maybe like 7 minutes.

but it sounds like you're shit goes deeper. check to make sure all your connections are plush against each other.
what kinda ballast is it?

it's a maxigrow or maxibright.

its a 1000watt unit which is supposed to do both HPS and MH. It's like the ballast doesn't have the kick it needs to light the bulb. it just flickers.

Very annoying as I'm like 9 weeks into flowering and theres nothing I can do except order a new one

heres the little fuker

Its still under garantee but was bought off ebay so don't really know what the chances are of it being replaced and I don't really have time to wait for them replacing it

how old is it?
you said that the MH side still works you should at least hit them with that until you can get another one.
thats probably the easiest way to go.

if you have a little bit of an electrical background and know how to solder, you probably have a multi meter around....
you could crack it open and start testing some things.
unless someone else starts making suggestions...those are the options i would start heading towards.

its less than a year old.

The MH did work until today and its now given up so I have no light to give the plants whatsoever.

I'd have no idea what I'd be doing if I opened it up plus that would void the warranty so might just buy a new one and hope for the best

Thanks

Yeah go buy a new one and contact the seller about the warranty. Oh and don't buy that kind again, you have a hood and bulbs so all you need to get is a ballast and you can find much better ones for similar prices.

Oh and to the op thats sucks ass ballast going out and all,you should always have a back up for the back up so you don't get in a pickle like this.......good luck to ya and I hope you got rush delivery :peace:
