Bad bulbs? need advice help

Noob here !!

Switched out 2 MH conversion bulbs (2 x 400 agromax) for 2 hps to start 12/12 however both hps wouldnt fire! checked all other possible causes outlets and timers are fine. So to get light on them quickly (total time delay 2hrs 41 mins) I put mh lamps back in and continued on 12/12.
1-how long can i use mh bulb till replacement hps can be had and what effects can i expect from this problem?

2- I noticed during this event that one of the MH bulbs has a nickel size bulge in the glass( looks pregnant but works), has anyone ever seen this before? is it safe to use?

3-did this event cause me more stress than the plant or not?

There are plenty of folks that use MH or HPS during the whole grow. No worries although the HPS is better for flowering than the MH. As far as the pregnant looking bulb, I have no clue. I have heard of people having problems with the switchable ballasts. They seem like more trouble than they are worth.
