At what point would you expect a plant in a three gallon pot to get rootbound?

I started with a few 12" rooted clones and have been vegging them for the past 5 weeks. I plan on vegging another 2 or 3 weeks while the other plants I have catch up They are sativa (AK48, Purple Voodoo, Cheese, NYC Diesel).

They are in 3 gallon pots, but they're already almost 5 feet and super bushy. Its getting to be insane. Are they going to get rootbound by the end of flowering? If so, is that going to have any effect on flower production? Should I move them into 5 or 10 gallon pots before flowering?

Pictures upon request.

with that amount of size, it could be very possible. I also flower in 3 gallon pots, but like to keep my plant height in the 3-4 ft range, closer to 3 usually. I believe a rule of thumb is for each gallon you could get 1 foot of vertical height safely, but I think this is environment and strain dependent.
