  • That is the question. This is my second grow and i feel like my plants are growing entirely to slowly. They all are about 5'' tall. They have been vegging 25. Heres the set up.
    8 plants
    8 CFL 26W 6500K. (= TO 100 WATT). 2 On the sides and 6 above the plants.
    gallon size pots.
Fox farms Ocean Forest soil since day one.
lights are about six inches from tops of plants.
    water every 2-3 days.
    stays about 78 degrees.
    distilled water.
    Any info would be appreciated,
    Thanks!

If they are only 5" tall one gallon pots should be fine for now. I'd get bigger ones to flower in for sure though. And yes, more light!

Thanks guys! Yea I just don't really wanna put more bulbs. Here are some pics I just took, moved the bulbs down after I took the pics. And yes I know this setup looks GHETTO as hell but here goes. 003.jpg004.jpg005.jpg006.jpg007.jpg

is it possible to drop them inbetween the small plants so the sides of the bulbs hit? that would maxmize your light.

it doesn't look bad at all, good space with great potential! If you don't want to add more light I recommend that you lower your plant count. You will have more of 1-2 well grown plant that 8 plants flowering with 6 bulbs.

I dont think light is the issue YET.....from the looks of your plants in the images above, i believe the strain you chose to grow is either nute sensitive or in need of nutes. at least 4 of the plants in your pics show that crispy leaf look. Did they always look crispy or is this something that recently showed up? If always crispy then nute burn, if just came up then they are hungry. diff strains like to eat at different rates. 25 days into veg you should have absolutely no leafs dying.

Another question.... i know cfls produce a decent amount of heat. What high temps are you hitting in your setup. Is your thermometer on the floor? if so, its not 78 at canopy level. Ventilation?

Set up looks neat. Your grow has great potential. This being your second grow, you know 100w of cfl will NOT cut it for flowering.

Dont give up and get to the bottom of it.

Good Luck!

keep lights very close. cfl should be two inches max. if they grow into bulb overnight that's cool.

25 days old --- started from ???

fox farm with organics? if yes, they don't need nutrients.

Just bet me too it :)
the only problem here is the cfl being 6" above the canopy

You could drop the cfl between the plants level with the canopy

Its bag seed... Only kind i can get :-(
would it be a smart idea to just wait till flowering and then at that time get rid of weak plants?
My thermometer is at the top of the grow, it's in a closet.
I leave the closet door open so it has plenty of ventilation.
The plants have been growing since August 20th.
I have added no nutes whatsoever just what is in the soil.
I wont add nutes till later. I have Fox Farms Grow big and Tiger bloom.
In flowering I plan on switching my bulbs to =200 WATTS 2700k, sound good?

For flowering I use 72 watt bulbs, they sell em at Home Depot, huge CFL's, I use six hanging from the top with reflector and for side lighting I have at least six 42 watt CFL's, plus some random 23 watts that I move around the plants. I use all of those for two or three plants max. So, 72x6=430 watts on top with reflector and 42x6=250 watts side lighting. This is in a small 3x3x5 closet I built. Heat becomes an issue at times, so I crank up my carbon filter/fan to max and sometimes turn off smaller lights (23 watters). So to summarize, approximately 680 watts of cfl's at 2600k for flowering, temps around 80 F, humidity around 50-60%, sometimes gets higher after watering. The more watts, the higher the heat, it's a trade-off. Good luck, hope this helps. Peace!
