Are "likes" killing +rep?

Im not one of the most popular ppl on the site and I know this but I used to get +Rep like once or twice a week depending how much i tried to answer questions. Now that "likes" have been introduced I havent gotten rep once in teh last few months but get likes once or twice a week. I have even seeen people beg for rep if others like their answers. Personally I think begging for +rep is in very poor taste but I understand the reason. It seems if you dont ask for rep you dont get it aymore....am I wrong?

I usualy like someones posts if they are cool or funny.
I Rep them if they take time to write somthing that helped me, or they got pics Pics of finnished ladies from there grow.

I cant imagine living my life unless I had the most "like" or "rep" on RIU.

I kindly share knowkedge as it was shared with me.

But I would still answer questions if the Rep thing disapeared today.

Reps and likes are arbitrary unless you're the type of person that cares what people think about you on the internet.

Yes, but he did not ask the question whether I cared if Likes were killing +rep or not so I actually answered his question.

The other reason likes are killing rep is that it is so damn easy to hit the like button and the rep is hard to find for some people.



Edit: And I find it very Ironic that your statement comes from a person that specifically attempts to get people to dislike him on the internet.

i hit like if the comment left is along the lines of what i would of or wanted to say, as not to make another post to agree with some one.
If a person does something worthy of rep, i give it to them.

personally i came here to learn and discuss botany as i t pertains to cannabis. the FAQ was an enormous tool for me, and i miss it terribly.

only just a short time ago, there were a great deal of terrific growers, and intellects on this site. they have been coerced away by the drama. which in my opinion is partially fueled by some, due to their need for the +REP.

yeah man i remember when i first joined i read majority of it twice then started lookin at peeps journals to see how it works in practise. its the major draw to a site about learning how to grow dope in my eyes. (bad pun totally intended )

yeah there were a lot of cool growers on here that through one or two heated debates turned slanging matches yadda yadda drama we lost a huge knowledge source.

When I first joined a forum I thought rep was important, like shows other your skill level or something, honestly don't worry about rep, the whole rep bar is more of a social thing than anything.

I see more growers who couldnt grow a decent plant to save their life with rep beyond repute than good growers..

i give rep and i like. likes are for ego stroking, +rep is like merrit badges for knowlege and helpfulness.

Yes but who really looks at rep anyways? Maybe if your a complete noob to the forum and you might look at someone's rep to see if it's high, but really it is worthless because rep could be for posting funny pictures or even could be negative feedback since we can't negative rep. Also, you can only rep someone once because you must spread reputation before repping that person again. It's nice to know that people are reading your posts and agreeing with your statements, narcossistic or not I love seeing notifications and allows you to know who's online and what topics are hot and your redirected to the thread without having to subscribe to every thread.

don't grow dope in your eyes. tears are too salty and you'll go blind (and people will notice the plants after a few days, even if you wear glasses).

yeah this whole likes BS is annoying! I hate checking in and seeing new notifications and it is someone giving me a "like". Rep is something that to me is used when people are trying to advise someone else on how to grow or helping out the new growers. The whole MR Ganja thing is just an indicator of how much someone spends on this site! But Rep is given when someone actually knows what the fuck they are talking about! They should get rid of the "like" feature IMHO.

the like feature is a good way to let someone know what you think without having to actualy post in the thread. flexability is power.
