Are feminized seeds really necessary?

How important is it to have feminized seeds? How do they germinate without males' pollen? Can they still produce viable seeds (I'm hoping that I will be able to have my own seeds after buying them for my first grow)? I'm a noob.bongsmilie

Male pollen is only required to make seeds not to germinate them.

Feminised seeds germinate the same way as any other kind of seed.

However with feminised seeds they are 99.9% female when grown due to the breeding techniques used.

In order to have seeds after your first grow you need male pollen and a female plant.

However if you want to smoke great buds then you don't realistically want to pollenate a female as her efforts are then channeled into seed production and not so much flower production.

Cool thanks. I think I will start out with feminized seeds. Maybe once I have some experience I can try breeding.

The one problem you are more likely to experience with fem seeds are hermaphrodites. If you are new to growing its very likely you wont realize you have a hermi until your garden is fucked. I think you should go with regular seeds if possible and just toss males and look for a keeper. Hermaphrodites can occur with regular seeds as well but are less likely.
