are conversion bulbs realistic?

I have been looking for a new 1000 watt toy and came across a set-up with a MH conversion bulb and regular HPS. I am wondering what the difference is in this type of set up vs. standard MH ballast and standard HPS with HPS ballast. Any input is appreciated as always.

I had a 400 HPS set up, and after getting a 1000w HPS, I wanted to veg with the 400, but MH is better for veg. So i bought a conversion bulb, now my 400w hps ballast runs the MH bulb (its a MH bulb with an HPS conversion)

yea the conversion is that it works on a hps ballast but puts out the mh light spectrum oo and if ur going to buy a new one if u buy digital then u can use a regular hps or a regular mh since they work on both

Conversion bulbs are so expensive you can buy entire second inexpensive halides with ballast and bulbs instead and come out way way way way ahead since you can use both at the same time and in the long run you keep on saving even more money too with each bulb replacement.

There are 1kw kits in the $125 range new, the cost of two typical conversion bulbs, or there's always craigslist where you can get a used ballast at around $75 or so or as low as $40 for some kind of industial 1kw halide like used high bays and low bays that you would then have to make a reflector for and change to horizontal and probably remote the ballast. (I mean if you are counting pennies)
