Are 2 gallon DWC buckets harder to control?

I am growing in a 2 gallon bucket, DWC.
The PH goes up several points an hour (5.4 to 5.9), is this due to the small bucket?
Just learning...

Depends on the size of your roots, but yes, certainly once the plat root system gets ~ 1/2 the volume of the bucket. See my last thread where I tried 2.5g pails

Hey randybishop - I can tell you with 100% assurance that the small reservoir size is not the ONLY factor. I run 2 gallons a girl in independent 5 gallon buckets, and since dialing in my ppms, my pH is perfectly stable (within a .1 fluctuation) for 5 days at a time.

Of course this starts the discussion surrounding ALL of the differences between our grows, but I just wanted you to know that my 2 gallon reservoir pH is stabilized for one week at a time.

You are a lucky man to have things dialed in that good in such a small res. Tells me you have some grows under your belt. However in general the larger the res the easier it is to keep stable. My advise for a new grower is to use a larger res.

pH stays stable in veg, but once the bud sites develop pH starts going crazy- much like a pregnant woman's' hormones

This is well into my third year of four cycles each, and I have not experienced this in my reservoirs, including flower, since my first year of noobdom. Perhaps, as I stated, there is need for further investigation; water source, nutrient line, temperatures, etc...Sorry to sound contrary, but what I am experiencing in a 2 gallon reservoir is contrary.

i would be worried about how often you gotta watch water level. Mine drinks like crazy and i add back 1gallon a day.

I started veging my plants in two gall bucket a few months back with excellent results. Put two or three air stones in there and the plants will explode!!!! Once you start to flower your gonna have to move it to a 5 gal becasue they drink to much water and that is what makes your ph go crazy. When that much water is taken out of the bucket in one day then you will not be able to control ph no matter how hard u try. Use the 2 gal buckets for veg and switch to 5 gal after a week or two into flower.

Most people are unaware that the roots system also functions to remove waste from the plant during mid-flower on (think umbilical cord). The bucket needs sufficient volume of nutes to handle the toxic waste

How much depends on plant size, but minimum of 5g

The problem is further exaggerated when pople use too many nute ppms, and especially with bloom boosters, which are unnecessary f the grower uses a quality balanced nute like Hydroponic Research V+B
